Schiavo's Parents Urge Court to Act Soon

By VICKIE CHACHERE, Associated Press Writer

TAMPA, Fla. - Warning that Terri Schiavo is "fading quickly," her parents begged a federal appeals court Tuesday to order the severely brain-damaged woman's feeding tube reinserted while they pursue claims that her rights are being violated.

David Gibbs III, attorney for parents Bob and Mary Schindler, told the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (news - web sites) in Atlanta that the 41-year-old woman might die before they get a chance to fully argue their case. The appeal came after a federal judge in Tampa rejected the parents' emergency request.

"Where, as here, death is imminent, it is hard to imagine more critical and exigent circumstances," Gibbs said in the appeal filed electronically with the court. "Terri is fading quickly and her parents reasonably fear that her death is imminent."

1. It's been about exactly four days.

She is dying of dehydration and has sedation. She cannot feel anything, is not aware of anything. With no cerebral cortex, she cannot possibly be in pain, as there are no centers for receiving any pain messages from the body. (I stated the previous two sentences in case there are still DUers who think she can feel anything or be aware of anything with no cerebral cortex.)

I think it would almost be crueler to reinsert it now, when she is so close to finally being totally at peace.

I just hope Schiavo is allowed to be at peace, allowed to be let go. Fifteen years is too long to be kept like that, too long.

3. I am praying that if God wants her to come home, He intervenes
It'd probably be the kindest outcome if she passes on before they have a chance to put that darned tube back in.

8. And on another note-If God wanted her to come out of her vegetative state
he would have done so sometime in these past 15 years!!!

5. DeLay, Bushes, Frist are beside themselves waiting for the inevitable.
They're in seventh heaven right now (unless they've been paying attention), all set to point their fingers at the judicial system for letting this "tragedy" happen.

6. They are some SICK BASTARD MOTHER FUCKERS.
Sorry for that language, but SERIOUSLY. GAWD. Can they GO any lower than that? Is there any pit too deep for them to slime around in?

The sad thing is, I know that is EXACTLY what they are going to do.

7. How much more could that poor woman fade?
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 03:04 PM by deadparrot
Her mind and spirit is long gone, her organs are practically nothing...she is unaware and nonsentient. "Terri" has been dead since 1990...this is a shell of a person. Just a brain stem acting on a few involuntary muscles. This WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE if her eyes were closed.
