Another thought on Schiavo as smokescreen
All this stuff is happening just days after the congressional vote on drilling in ANWR, something that could have turned into a highly unpopular water-cooler discussion topic. Now no one is even thinking about that travesty.

1. Entirely possible
WHy does the story spike just now? Also helps direct attention away from the train wreck that is the President's Social Security plan.

3. It's about the filibuster
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/031605A.shtml

They are going to try to kill the filibuster. If they do so, the courts will be flooded with the same kinds of people who have initiated this farce surrounding Schiavo. Their way of thinking will become, without recourse, the law of the land.

Many people see this Schiavo thing as an example of the fundamentalist takeover of the country, and they are right. The looming fight over the filibuster is not merely an example. It is the last line, the firebreak that cannot be breached, the Alamo.

Endgame.

4.  I have related the two in several conversations
I have pointed out that they are not interested in saving mother earth, but rather saving one woman who is brain dead.

I asked one fundie where his support for the environment was earlier in the week!

I have done what I can to keep the issue alive, but you may be right, I figured the diversion was to take heat of Delay again.
