Mel Gibson, Patricia Heaton, Randy Travis & Pat Boone Plead for Terri Schi
(PRWEB) March 22, 2005 -- The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation (www.terrisfight.org) today announced that celebrities Mel Gibson, Patricia Heaton, Randy Travis and Pat Boone have issued a fervent plea to reinsert Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube.

Actor and director Mel Gibson, known for his role in the movie “Braveheart” and his recent international success “The Passion of the Christ,” said, “I fully support the efforts of Mr. & Mrs. Schindler to save their daughter, Terri Schiavo, from a cruel starvation. Terri’s husband should sign the care of his wife over to her parents so she can be properly cared for.”

Actress Patricia Heaton, star of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” and Honorary Chair of Feminists for Life, said she is outraged. "We must not let Terri Schiavo be starved to death. This deliberate and painful destruction of a woman’s life cannot be justified or tolerated. Terri deserves better. Removal of a feeding tube will result in a slow starvation that is cruel and painful. She is not in a comatose state and she is not suffering from terminal disease. Terri may no longer be perfect or complete but she has a fundamental right to life. Her feeding tube must be re-inserted.”

Country music star Randy Travis made an appeal on Terri’s behalf, saying, “I would like to lend my support to the Schindlers in their efforts to save their daughter. All life has value. I’m praying Terri’s feeding tube will be reinserted. I feel this decision was wrong, deciding the fate of an innocent person’s life by starvation. May God lead the powers that be to reverse this decision and give Terri her life back.”

Heaton is full of crap, btw. i'll put this here instead of a new thread...

Experts: Schiavo's death would be peaceful

NEW YORK (AP) -- If Terri Schiavo dies from the removal of her feeding tube, her passing should be peaceful, experts say.

After all, she is in a persistent vegetative state without conscious awareness, they noted.

But studies show that even patients who can speak and who have chosen to stop eating and drinking generally don't complain of thirst or hunger, said Dr. Russell Portenoy, chair of palliative care at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.

"It's as if the body has a protective mechanism at the end of life, such that loss of appetite and loss of thirst precede the dying process," he said.

Again, why I can't stand Mel Gibson. :argh:

I support your right to support someone who has been dead for 15 years. Of course, someone will need to pay for all of her care. Maybe Randy Travis can start to foot the bill, since he cares so deeply.

Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 08:51 AM by Azathoth
They know how to get people angry, riled up, self-righteous, and completely uninformed.

Of course, Gibson is a "I'm more Catholic than the Pope, who is actually an antipope in league with the Masons" nutjob, so it's no surprise that he sided with the uber-Catholic parents.

I know how much they just haaaate when movie stars and singers stick their noses in issues which they know nothing about. They should be leaving politics and medicine to people who know something about those things. Like disc jockey Rush Limbaugh, house painter Sean Hannity, and herbal remedy salesman Michael Savage.

At first, I was distressed by the idea of just removing her feeding tube; it seemed cruel. But the more I read, the more I understand the decision. My heart goes out to Terri, but nobody short of the Almighty can save her now. All we can do is give her some dignity.

24. I am sure that Ms. Heaton, as well as the rest of these "bleeding heart"
republicans would agree that our country MUST IMPLEMENT A NATIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM TODAY! To ensure that not ONE SINGLE AMERICAN dies from preventable causes.
NOT ONE CITIZEN should die because they cannot afford the latest in prescription medicines.
NOT ONE CITIZEN should die because they do not have insurance.
This is a wake=up call for republicans across this country.
Our "culture of life" demands that we initiate a NATIONAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM TODAY!

After all, don't we ALL have a "fundamental right to life" as she puts it? Or does it just apply to brain-dead people with religious relatives?

38. My 2 cents....
although I respect all these entertainers, there are 2 sides to every story. I know Michael Schiavo's aunt and uncle. After Terri's accident, he completely turned his life over to her care in the belief that she would get better. This has not happened. Michael went to nursing school to learn how to care for Terri and did so for several years.

There are several larger issues here. The Republicans are being hypocritical. They say they don't want "activist" judges but they have had a law written that covers this case to force a federal judge to take action.

All the funds for Terri's settlement are essentially gone. The woman's care is financed by Medicaire. Yet, the GOP wants Medicaire's funds cut. Another thing about this is that her parents say she is not getting the "correct care" i.e., speech therapy. This is ironic because speech therapy is covered by Medicaire (I looked it up.)

This is a family tragedy that is played all across America. The Republicans are being allowed to make decisions that effect every family in America regarding issues that are private and intimate. My own family had to make this decision for both my mother-in-law and my grandmother and my heart goes out to anyone that is forced into this situation.

would be a nobody if it weren't for Ray Romano and Everybody Loves Raymond, she will return to being a nobody after this God awful show ends it's run later this May. Pat Boone should go back to shining his white bucks. About the only thing I can say about Mel Gibson is that he's the only one of the 4 who has a future in entertainment(if he keeps turning out crap like his last movie that could change). The other 3 are soon to disappear into obscurity.

Isn't she always outraged over something? "Feminists for Life"? How can a right-wing wacko call herself a "feminist"?

I think she's more annoying than Mel Gibson, and hell, that's saying a lot.
