Tom DeLay sees God's hand at work, saving Tom from "the whole syndicate"
At least that's what he told this group

snip>
On Friday, as the leaders of both chambers scrambled to try to stop the removal of Ms. Schiavo's feeding tube, Mr. DeLay, a Republican of Texas, turned his attention to social conservatives gathered at a Washington hotel and described what he viewed as the intertwined struggle to save Ms. Schiavo, expand the conservative movement and defend himself from accusations of ethical lapses.

"One thing that God has brought to us is Terri Schiavo, to help elevate the visibility of what is going on in America," Mr. DeLay told a conference organized by the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian group. A recording of the event was provided by the advocacy organization Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

"This is exactly the issue that is going on in America, of attacks against the conservative movement, against me and against many others," Mr. DeLay said.

Mr. DeLay complained that "the other side" had figured out how "to defeat the conservative movement," by waging personal attacks, linking with liberal organizations and persuading the national news media to report the story. He charged that "the whole syndicate" was "a huge nationwide effort to destroy everything we believe in."

Can he really clean himself up with this? He call it a ""a huge nationwide effort to destroy everything we believe in."

Did he forget for a minute that we have a One Party Government?

9. Religion is the last refuge of scoundrals..............
He's made a career of using the flag and political office to enrich himself....now he's using Terri Schiavo to deflect and distract from the stinking corruption that is engulfing him.

it won't work....people can see right through this phoniest of hypocrites. Sorry Tom, Sciavo is not about you....shaking down lobbyists for money is what'll do you in....

20. Hmmm. No. The man is "crazy like a fox" and should lose his license
to practice medicine after pulling his BS diagnosis without complying with the standard of care practiced in the industry.

Stupid Santorum should lose his law license for accusing a federal judge of violating a statute (which could be easily contested as unconstitutional) when the judge acted perfectly within his authority and the law while still acting consistent with the statute.

11. The accumlative fumes from years of bugspraying --
-- have at last corroded Tom's mind.

Such as it is.

The slimiest snake-oil con artist can't touch him for manipulative deceit and swagger.

12. About the personal attacks bit
I don't think a leader of the party of Vince Foster conspiracy theories really has any room to complain about personal attacks.

Plus, if Delay is innocent, why doesn't he throw the doors open to an investigation? You know, like Clinton enjoyed with Whitewater? Oh right, Republicans are presumed innocent both before and after convictions. My mistake.

13. First of all she's not MS. Schiavo, she's MRS. Schiavo
Second, he could give a damn about her.

Third, if the allegations aren't true, why are they "punishing" the guy who was censuring him in the House, even though he was a Republican.

And yes, perhaps God did send MRS. Schaivo to elevate the visibility of what's going on in America. And the American people, according to the polls, don't like it one bit. They're... um... not staring at the Democrats though, dude. They're staring at y'all.

This guy is nuts indeed. Gerrymandering for Jesus?

He can't possibly believe half of what he says.

I heard about this on Morning Sedition. I knew someone at DU would be on top of it. :yourock:

Nominating for greatest.

On edit: Americans United for Separation of Church and State (Americans United or AU) provided the transcript! Lord, but I love Barry Lynn. That's a great organization to contribute to if you have a few bucks. I do.

17. well, he got this part right
"One thing that God has brought to us is Terri Schiavo, to help elevate the visibility of what is going on in America."

Unfortunately for Tom, it's not for the reasons he said. Eyes are being opened & people are (finally) waking the hell up.

22. The projection of these Totalitarian Monsters is so astounding

He charged that "the whole syndicate" was "a huge nationwide effort to destroy everything we believe in."

Wow, thanks for laying out what YOU have done exactly, up to and including your formation of a corrupt "syndicate".

Hey, Bugman! Do tell us PLEASE how "Liberals" are planning to make Amerika a One-Party Totalitarian State.

And don't forget to leave out no details about what those nefarious "liberals" are doing to shred the last vestiges of Old America.

23. Assuming victim stance is part of their MO.
DeLay has tremendous power and has been, for the most part, under the radar of most Americans, and therefore he's been able to get away with a good deal without scrutiny. This is a person who literally has the power to affect lives for decades to come, due to his ability to block or move legislation.

DeLay is very anti-regulation and thus gives tacit approval to the sweatshop arrangements on the Marianas Islands. Perhaps you've read about this place, where young immigrant women work under near-slavery conditions and make clothing that will be labeled "MADE IN THE USA." Read Jan Reid and Lou Dubose's book "The Hammer" for an idea of how DeLay fits into all this, or just Google his name and "Marianas."

At any rate, I find it utterly fascinating that DeLay manages to combine a particularly boorish aggression (Remember how he reacted to the Sarbanes-Oxley act?) with the posture of the victimized. It only serves to make me feel he is one of the few genuinely evil people I can point to in politics. It's all manipulation and deception and self-serving.

May he be seen for what he is.

May he face the consequences of his acts.

May he live to repent all that he's done to harm other people.

They plan on putting the fear of Satan into every Judge that is not totally sold out to the GOP. I suspect a little Anthrax may start showing up in a few judge's mailboxes anytime now.
