I'm confused, what kind of political judo did the Dems think they made
by voting UNANIMOUSLY for Cat Killer's Bill?

Obviously, Senators the likes of Boxer, Dayton and Feingold are too smart to eat up Cat Killer's bullshit, so someone explain to me what did they accomplish by posing no opposition to the Repubs? Couldn't they have just not shown up for the vote? Whats wrong with just voting no?

20. I'm not familiar with Senate rules, but don't they need to meet a Quorum
to pass a bill?

Reid, six colleagues to spend 10 days in Middle East region

It remains unclear whether senators will go into Iraq

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., departed Friday for a 10-day trip to the Middle East where he planned to get a first-hand look at American involvement in the region.

"This is a critical time for the peace process in the Middle East, and for democratic change in several other nations. Many of the developments hang tenuously in the balance," Reid said in a statement.

"It's only appropriate for the Senate to be fully engaged at this time and express the full commitment and support of the United States," he said.

Reid's office said he would travel with six other senators to the Middle East and "several emerging democracies." A Reid spokesman declined to say whether the delegation would venture into Iraq.

Other senators on the trip include: Richard Durbin, D-Ill., Robert Bennett

SENATE PASSES SCHIAVO BILL
22.3.2005. 08:43:39

The US Senate has unanimously passed legislation aimed at prolonging the life of a brain-damaged woman who has been on life support for 15 years, in an unprecedented intervention to force the Florida case into the federal courts

5. They embarassed themselves. This is from their bad old days.
They went against intellectual honesty and compassion plus they went against the over whelming will of the people. What a bunch of assholes.

7. Avoiding a more comprehensive bill
Some reports say that the Senate Democrats let this pass as part of a compromise with Republicans to keep them from passing a more genealized bill regarding withthdrawing life support. The fear was that the would ram through a law which would make it harder for everyone. At least this law only applies to Schiavo, and is turning out to be doing the Republicans more harm than good. It might not even impact the Schiavo case as so far the federal judge has not changed anything.

16. Both were reprehensible.
This "lesser of two evils" excuse does not sit well with me. Congress had no business getting involved with this at all, and I'm appalled that the Senate managed to disappear.

22.  May not be a matter of lesser of two evils
If it is true that the Republicans were set to pass a bill which regulates end of life decisions it could have been a disaster. The worst case scenario could have been a situation where physicians would be afraid to withhold life support on anyone for fear of prosecution. To prevent such a scenario, stepping back on this vote could have been a wise decision.

Until we can sort out all the stories of the threats and deals which went on in the past few days, I will withhold judgement on the actions of the Senate Democrats.
