New CNN poll, GOP in trouble over Schiavo mess
by John in DC - 3/21/2005 06:37:00 PM

My sources tell me there's a new CNN poll coming out at 7pm EST that confirms the public is NOT happy with the GOP over this Terri Schiavo mess. Details coming soon, but this confirms the earlier ABC poll that Joe posted below.

Oh that the Democrats listened to us crazy bloggers who said this issue was outrageous and that the American public would be on our side. I mean, I'm glad some Dems like Pelosi did speak out, but there was hardly a Democratic counter-attack on this issue commensurate with the attack the GOP did in pushing this issue, especially in the Senate.

Still, it'll be fun to see them squirm.

But isn't it past 7PM EST?

48. Like they've been raping the Constitution for four years now...
But don't you think that little-by-little people are getting fed up?? The GOP ("greedy old party") has pulled so much crap in the last four years-- it's human nature to say, "OK-- THAT'S ENOUGH-- THEY WENT TOO FAR." The neocons at the top are increasingly out-of-control-- and it can't go on forever... whether it's with a whimper or a bang, they will crash and burn. Count on it.

Whether we are aware of it or not, we all have a system of checks and balances in our heads. We (liberals) got it a LONG time ago. But because rethugs are stubborn (and have terminal tunnel vision) their followers are loath to admit this so-called administration is blowing it, hence they go along with the neocon agenda... until it hits home-- and hard. * isn't serving the people (Dem OR rethug)-- only the rich corporations and very wealthy are benefiting from him and his disgustingly greedy policies. And the beneficiaries hardly comprise a majority in this country.

* and his conniving thugs have been sowing the seeds of their own destruction for a long time now. I'd hate to be in their shoes.

3. "the public" is not the target of this politicizing
the target is the fundies. If the public still has some problems by this time next November, they'll start another war or bomb something to get "the public" back in line.

9. Exactly. They want to keep the RW fundies hyped up for 2006. They
couldn't care less about the polls unless they include the "registered voters" numbers, more specifically the die-hards that vote in off year elections.

One never knows when some backward ass Third World country with a fierce army of archers and matchlock men, might threaten poor defenseless little America's freedom. Especially if it turns out that said country has oil , uh, I mean that their Evil Dictator was somehow involved in 911, and wants to attack America with his awesome flotilla of rowboats. But as Dan RatherNot used to say, "Courage"!

This vote was called during a Congressional and Senate recess, and late on a Sunday night. A lot of the Senators weren't even in town, and thus did not vote.

21. "....pontifical posturing among politicians..."
Speaking just for himself, Rev. C. Welton Gaddy, President, The Interfaith Alliance said today in an email to me….

“A family’s grief over the loss of a loved one is being compounded by pontifical posturing among politicians and religious leaders who know too little about the situation even to comment on it much less to attempt to control it. A tragic situation is being made more tragic by the insensitive intrusion into it by Washington politicians seeking yet another venue for speaking to their partisan constituencies and for strengthening their political “base.” For Congress and the White House to jump into this tragic situation at the last minute, after years of court proceedings, and to take a position on the value of life so inconsistent with, if not contradictory to, many of their other decisions, represent unconscionable meddling in the private decision of an American family—a family who needs our thoughts and prayers, not our spirit of blatant judgment and our not-too-subtle politicization.”

26. This Was All Just A Sop To The Xtian Right...
...and whether or not Terry Schiavo lives or dies is of little importance to the Bush Mob. After all, to say that the same people who have bombed 100,000 innocent Iraqis to smithereens cares about 1 brain dead victim of whatever tragedy is to take part in an exercise of cosmic absurdity.

Republicans have learned to expect that while most people will forget about this sad little moment in the great events parade, their sadly deluded "values" people will cling to this one for years with gratitude and awe. Evangelicals and their ilk have become the most doted upon GOP constituency.

They tried to politicize this issue and it backfired. Any counter might have been veiwed as also politizing the issue. The Republicans shot themselves in the foot. No need for our side to pick up the gun and look down the barrel to see if it is still loaded.

This is in the rnc talking points memo: "This is a great political issue, because it will excite the right to lifers."

Personally, I think this is an act of desparation. They're losing their war monger base, and their right to life base, because the economy is so bad. They lost their economic base a while ago, so, I see this as the monkey shoring up his last ounce of support, and he's gonna step in it.

This is good news.

Fifty-six percent of Americans agree with the decision to remove the feeding tube -- including 54 percent of Republicans and 55 percent of people who attend church at least monthly, according to a poll released Monday.

The CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll was based on telephone interviews of 909 American adults from Friday to Sunday. The margins of error for the questions ranged from plus-or-minus 3 percentage points to plus-or-minus 7 percentage points.
