What Pro-Life Would Actually Mean
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 02:42 PM by Plaid Adder
I'll tell you what, Republicans. I'll make you a deal.

I'll give up my right to choose--and, what the hell, my right to die. BUT, only if you give up your right to kill.

That's right, guys. If you're going to be the party of life, then you have to respect ALL life. And that means:

* no executions
* no letting the poor starve, die of exposure, or die of treatable conditions because they have no health insurance
* no refusing to teach people how to avoid fatal STDs
* no assassination, coup-fomenting, or training death squads to prop up 'friendly' regimes
* and, of course, no war. Ever.

In return, you are welcome to force me to bear any child I may conceive, and keep me on a ventilator long after my brain has turned to guacamole.

How about it, guys?

What do you mean, you're gonna have to talk to your lawyers?

All right, I'll wait,

The Plaid Adder

Jesus taught us that poor people and Arabs deserve to die.

22. HUH??? Jesus did NOT teach that!
Unless you're being facetious, you're just dead wrong for confusing the leader with some of his misguided followers.

I'm surprised nobody challenged that statement.

25. The rolleyes indicates sarcasm
I was being sarcastic because I know that Jesus would never teach that anybody deserves to die.

and didn't notice that the little green icon was rolling his little eyes back inside his little head.

Thanks for pointing that out to me - that'll teach me to jump to conclusions!:eyes::eyes::eyes:

6. Yeah, what do you lurking freepers have to say about this?
BTW PA, I always say that it's not "pro-life" - it's "pro-birth."

As Randi Rhodes would say: 'Love the fetus; hate the child.'

9. You'll be waiting a while
Remember these are the PNAC people who love war and military might so you'll be waiting a good little while. It's so hypocritical and disgusting that Bush is making a "special" trip from his vacation in Texas to come sign this bill while millions of Iraqi's die everyday and more soliders. :argh:

15. Democrats are the real pro-life party
you can support choice and life at the same time without caving or compromising. Democratic policies help sustain human life. Social programs are pro-life. We're civilized so we want people to live. And when people have a living wage, and health care, and all that, they won't hesitate to choose life.

That's why there are more abortions during Bush's presidency than during Clinton's.

Excellent post :toast:

Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 03:52 PM by caledesi
Because people can't AFFORD to have a child w/ these thugs running things, that's why.

Aren't you happy the 8-year "nightmare" of peace and prosperity are over?

edit: usual stuff

21. How's this for a "great " and very sad story:
Illegal abortions...let me tell you a story. (didn't find out about this til I was older). Scandal of the family

Grew up in small tourist town in New England and many years ago, my uncle stationed overseas (this was in the 40s). His wife (my aunt)got pregnant by another man while my uncle was away. She DIES from a botched abortion.

They had FOUR children and after that debacle, my other aunt took one of the kids and the rest went to foster homes. My uncle was shamed into leaving town and went to California. When I was growing up I DIDN'T even know I had this uncle until my father died at 58 and "some guy" calls our house saying he is "Uncle Bob." :wtf:

Oh yeah...horrible story.

To this day, I don't understand why my other aunts/uncles didn't take the other kids because they only had one and two kids respectively. We had 6 kids in our family, so I guess that I can understand. NO I CAN'T.

20. Excellent post! Sounds like a compromise.
At least we'd do away with all of the hypocrisy.

This has been one of the things I liked about the Pope (and there is only a little I like about him): he has been consistently pro-life whether it is war or abortion or poverty.

Hell, they can hook me up to the matrix after I'm gone for all I care...as long as everyone eats and gets to see a doctor and has access to meds and never comes home from a battlefield in pieces.

It's a small price to pay really.

37. They don't like science preserving life if it uses stem cells
I find that a great irony, too. It's okay for science to prevent death in this case, but science using otherwise-discarded embryos or involving the much-dreaded, misunderstood "cloning" are a NO-- no extending the lives of thinking, feeling, beloved people with diseases that might be cured from such research. It doesn't fit in with their political agenda.
