Do advertisers conduct internal polls to see whose watching which channels
If so then those of us, like me, who have stopped watching corporate whore news, but still enjoy Discovery, History etc. channels, could have an impact boycotting, without having to completely destroy the t.v.

1. I don't know about advertising internal polls, but...

...I'm pretty darn certain that your local cable company aggregates statistics on what channels are tuned in and which aren't. I've seen more than one website promoting the technology to support this data collection, and unless I'm mistaken, it's designed for the newer, interactive digital systems only.

So I make a point of never tuning in to those Corporate Media channels, ever.

2. Cable TV companies must know who (using digital boxes) watches what
I haven't heard anything about it, but cable companies have been encouraging subscribers for a couple of years now to use the interactive digital boxes (I have one hooked to one of my TV's because they offered me lower rates to have the special box than to not have a box) I don't know for sure but I suspect this technology provides them with capability to collect viewership info, and pass it onto advertisers and channels.

3. Well, both these responses are very interesting.
I assumed they had some way to know besides cable subscription. We have satellite for the t.v.'s we watch the most, and cable for the others. I NEVER switch the whores on, and I want advertisers to know this.

4. The collect metrics on everything!
They have very accurate demographics. The ads are targeted to specific groups and that is why all these cable channels are blessing. There is also a field called "Marketing Psychology".

5. Lol, big brother should be careful what it wishes for!
The growing numbers on DU are probably also a tad disconcerting for whores everywhere! :D

7. Ewwwww, more reasons why we call it the boob tube.
Add to that the fact that we're being fed rightwing propaganda day and night, and it's a nobrainer that we should turn it off.
