Bush Cuts Vacation, Hopes to Sign Schiavo Bill
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) is cutting short his Texas vacation to return to Washington in hopes of signing a bill aimed at restoring a feeding tube to Terri Schiavo in the Florida right-to-die case, the White House said on Saturday.

1. After all the wonderful work * has done and he needs to vacation?
Still, it takes more than 6 days to dismantle countries, including one's own it seems.

27. Yes, but he couldn't be bothered getting off his ass to go back to work
after he got that Presidential Daily Brief that specified Osama bin Laden was determined to strike INSIDE the US - about a month before 9/11. For that, he stayed out on vacation. But for the opportunity to trample all over an individual's privacy rights, he'll move heaven and earth and - MY GOD - actually interrupt his precious frickin' vacation. That's awfully big of him, don't you think?

FUCKER.

9. Contact the right-to-lifers
Get a lawyer. Demand the same care for your husband that Terri Schiavo gets. We really need to create a movement around this. It's sick to use her, I know, but still. There are tens of thousands of Americans who need health care to extend thier lives and have as much right to it as Terri Schiavo does.

15. It's a sick world.
Your opinion is that it's okay to use her even though it's sickening. Your opinion is that her wish should be kicked aside in favor of her existing in a vegitative state so she can be used to further an agenda you want.

I'm sickened by this.

17. where did sandnsea say any of that?
I have reread the post in question several times and do not see anywhere in it that "her wish should be kicked aside in favor of her existing in a vegetative state."

sheesh!

23. How many different ways can Terri Schiavo be used as a politcal pawn?
"It's sick to use her, I know, but still. There are tens of thousands of Americans who need health care to extend thier lives and have as much right to it as Terri Schiavo does."

sandnsea says it's okay to use her. I worded it as I interpreted it. She wants to use Terri as an example for those Americans who need health care.

Terri Schiavo made her wishes known and to go against them in order to use her in this manner is disgusting.

24. Listen, I understand
I think it is sick that she is being used as a right wing tool. I think she is terminally brain dead and should be allowed to pass as peacefully as possible.

But since Congress has chosen to interject itself into this, then they have established a precedent that there is a right to health care to sustain life.

Since they did it, then anybody who needs life sustaining medical care should sue to get it. That's how legal precedents are set, almost always on the tragedy of somebody who has gone before.

I didn't make the system, but sick people should by god use it.

25. I don't agree with ANYONE using her as a tool like this, though
I do agree with you on your points, but I don't think it serves us or her in the matter you have suggested.

To an extent the repubs have shot themselves in the foot over this. The majority of Americans support letting Terri pass on and that her husband's right to make sure his wife's wishes are fulfilled.

From everything I've read and heard up to this point, I believe the majority recognizes that she's being used as a pawn by the repubs. The dems would suffer the same damage, if not more, if they did the same for their own agenda.

Even my RW mom says this case is a travesty and Terri should be let go. She's disgusted by how this thing has turned into a political circus.

We both discussed going Independent today because we are disgusted with the behavior of both the repubs and the dems. (I still can't believe we agreed on this)

26. A federal right to health care
Not just immediate life saving, but life maintaining. That's a pretty big thing. Nobody seems to care about all the people who have no right to get medical treatment that is necessary for maintaining their health. We've had people here in Oregon literally die because they couldn't get health care and medicine. You can be disgusted with me if you want, but if invoking the name Terri Schiavo can make people realize we all have a right to health care, then I'd do it. Sad times we live in that we even have to have the discussion.

that I just cannot explain--about this so so Sudden and forceful and agressive rush to "save Terri" stuff by the fundamentalists/Repugs--and the Dems have been mostly trying to lay low about it.

13. Sun was black, and his mother is black and poor.
How interesting it is that not a single Republican congressman said a word when the hospital in Texas took that baby off life support against his mother's wishes. There were no protests, no pickets, no lawsuits. But that right to life thing resonates better with the fundie freepers when the people they are "saving" are attractive middle-class white people. Ever notice that the anti-abortion movement likes to put up billboards with pictures of cute blue-eyed, pink-cheeked white babies?

14. Schiavo Bill? Slave Bill? I think schiavo means slave in Italian
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 09:42 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
This lady is becoming the slave of photo-ops, media hype, and the chance for the right wing to exercise its will. Personally, I don't want to see this person die, if she is still a person. If she's just a brain-dead shell, however, with no chance at human life, then I think this is deplorable. I think this situation is best left to the doctors and to the parties concerned. Unfortunately, she's turning into a media slave and a political football.

19. So El Douche bag is making this a Federal issue?
Will this backfire/bite him in the ass where the right to die folks are concerned? Don't states have rights anymore?

This is crazy. Hell, even my Bu$hbot sister in Florida thinks the woman is being made to suffer and should be allowed to die.
