A suggestion for those preparing living wills
If you accept that you would prefer euthanasia, include language that you would prefer to speed your demise as much as possible under these circumstances. This allows for euthanasia to be used should it become legal at some point in the future.

1. Good suggestion
It might also be a good idea to send copies of your living will to your closest relatives or close friends to make sure there is no confusion about your wishes should anything happen.

2. Not to comment on the euthanasia - but another piece of advice
get family members to sign something that states that they are aware of your wishes, and that you will not try to prevent it. I signed such a statement for both of my parents - as they wanted to try to avert any lawsuits that might prolong the situation. While I supported them - it was still hard to sign (just conjoured up the image of a parent starving/dehydrating to death); but I did sign it.

3. doubt that will be the case
When my mother went through, your parents will be spared, if they are allowed pain medication, they will probably just slip away, my mother was only breathing at like 60% compared to normal, pain medication would have relaxed her and she would have slipped away and had an "easy death" as compared to prolonged suffering.

my mom's was "misplaced" last summer by my aunt who disagrees with my mom's decision.
my mom was given last rites, and we didn't call my aunt, because she would have called me a murderer for signing the DNR. and, worse, she would have been successful in convincing the hospital to revive her because the hospital had misplaced their own copy.
