1. This is LAST THING any Democrat needs to be doing.
Working with Tom DeLay is like working with the prince of darkness himself....he will only double cross you when he is through with you.

10. He's no master
None of them are. They're just located on the upside of the playing field and can roll shit downhill on Democrats.

8. link?
what exactly did he say?

Last time I saw Delay, he was bashing dems, and trying to cozy up with the republicans that were resisting him.

Let's get some specifics if we're going to discuss this.

12. It was on the radio on Air America at the turn of the hour
I can't remember if it's CNN or ABC radio that comes on Air America. DeLay said he was not giving up and he and several Democrats were working on a compromise.

St. Pete is in his district, and he's a double dealing ass-hole, who is running for Governor next year. He's supposed to speak at our DEC fundraiser tonight, so I'm boycotting it.

Go there and give him a piece of your mind. How can you positively affect anything through walking away from a chance for him to hear from you?

13. Mr Schiavio's lawyer, in his statement to the press yesterday
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 04:29 PM by Malva Zebrina
said that Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Feinstein and Leahy met in a secret meeting to discuss the matter while it was still on the floor. I got the impression that, Mr Folos, the lawyer, suspected this compromise because he went on to say with some passion that if the Democrats could not uphold the law, they deserve to be the minority party and a dwindling minority party-- that if the Democrats forced another tube to be reinserted they would be worse than the Repbuplicans, they would be disgusting and moreso than those who thought up this arrogant abuse of power.

Well , I don't know if they were in on it, but he said they "cut a deal" in the cloakroom, so there you have it.

Kerry, Clinton, Leahy, Feinstein and maybe a few more.

It is no wonder the Repbulicans are so arrogant, It is no wonder they think they can do anything, there is absolutely NO resistance and they are allowed to go right on as they please. That's why Bush won--he don't cut no deals with terrorists. He is a leader and a tough one.

I have lost all respect for the process as it is proceeding now.

about the "process" you reference, which, in this country, I think we have called democracy.

15. Reid sold out..er..compromised.
Senate leaders earlier had reached a deal to push forward the legislation that would put Schiavo's case into federal court, a Democratic aide said.

The agreement would allow the House of Representatives to reconvene to pass the Senate version of the bill, said Jim Manley, spokesman for Sen. Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record) of Nevada.

Reid and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Republican, reached the agreement a day after doctors followed a court order and removed the feeding tube that has kept Schiavo alive for the last 15 years.

18. Right to life at any cost to the person or their family backs Dems in the
corner to be "against life." That's what it's been about the whole time not this poor woman being fought over as if the Media and Right Wingers own her body.

Democrats should be calling this out as a Publicity Stunt for politics. ABC news said a Repug leaked Talking Points about this. But, the theory still seems to be to let them "Grandstand" and do nothing but look like you're silently supporting what they do.

We need a leader. Harry Reid is not a leader. We need someone to call this for what it is. :-(

21. yes, but don't they have aids to advise them--aides that research
the polls showed overwhelmingly that people thought this woman should be allowed to die . Polls showed that people did not think this is an issue that belongs to the congress. I have never run for office, never given a speech, cannot speak before a crowd without shaking, can hardly answer the phone without shaking,am not a lawyer, but I can certainly work it out that the people would be with me on this should I speak about the disregard of the law by the Republicans and not join in with the circus the Rebuplicans brought onto the floor of the congress where it does not belong. They cowed before the Repbulicans for fear they would be called a name. They lost and will be regarded as cowardly people who will make deals instead of being strong enough to stand on their principles--and that could most likely translate that they will make deals with terrorists or worse, people will increasingly view the two parties as the same and not vote at all.

22. I don't think it will do much good
The compromise kicks the case up to Federal court, which is likely to be unconstitutional. And of course, even if it isn't, Schiavo has won every single courtcase to date. It's much better than this crazy-ass subpeona bullshit.
