“Cheat in Underdog’s Clothing” or “Underdog Placebo Syndrome”

“Cheat in Underdog’s Clothing” or “Underdog Placebo Syndrome”

The Bush Administration’s practice of promoting itself, its policies, and its followers as somehow holy and in constant struggle to overcome a great evil is amusing to me.

The President is just an underdog, a “plain and simple” man with great ambitions, and all who would oppose him are “un-American” and evil.

Who is oppressing this administration?? The Oppressed? Are the rich getting poorer?

No. They are the Oppressors. They are the rich, and they are getting richer through abuse of power.

The “We’ll tell it like it isn’t to your face, and like it is behind your back” modus operandi,(i.e. Clear Skies, Healthy Forests, No Child Left Behind, use of the word “freedom”), needs to be seen for what it really is. The administration either suffers from “Underdog Placebo Syndrome”, or they are just “Cheats in Underdog’s Clothing.”

If you want to know a tree, look at its fruit. The only “fruit” this tree has borne have been a “few bad apples”, as in Abu Ghraib. The tree’s policy of torture left it’s fruit to rot. Responsibility was avoided at all costs. Accountability was left to the apples, who were betrayed. This tree was a deadbeat dad. The fruit was aborted by a supposed “pro-life” tree.

It is time for Americans to see through the administration’s thinly veiled intentions. The administration will continue on the course of making America believe it is the victim/underdog, so that behind closed doors it can carry on with the awful things it is doing. America is a battered wife, the husband is the administration. Hubby can continue to tell us how bad it would be without him, and how another hubby would be worse, but he, and he alone is the perpetrator. And we are the victim AND the enabler, until we press charges. It is that “plain and simple”.

********
I am debating sending this to an editor, any suggestions?

1. The RW's coninual use of the "Underdog" card always makes me
laugh ruefully. On the one hand, it's almost dada-level absurdism for them to claim that they're "underdogs" when they've got control of nearly every power/governing body in the US and the media.

On the other hand, realizing that makes me fearful, because I know that the undereducated eat that shit up, and they're using that strategy to implement "The END TIMES."

Swift couldn't have come up with irony this enormous.

2. It is along the lines of the crap Hitler did, really
First, make them believe they are victims, they have to fight against everything. Then, make them fight against everything.

I found some grammatical errors in my letter, up to edit.

:)

3. Wow! Yes!
Actually, your post articulates something I've been trying (and failing) to articulate for ages. I'm not sure that "Placebo" is quite the word I would have used, but the concept is so clear! (I'd probably be inclined to call it "False Underdog Syndrome" to align it with the term "False Memory Syndrome").

It has been driving me CRAZY for years that those in power claim to be in power only because they were able, Rocky-like, to overcome the Apollo Creed of the Left. The right wing pundocracy make themselves out to be the Bad News Bears. White men claim to be victims of "reverse discrimination." It's a willful disregard of history--of reality!

I've long wondered how it is that the Right can claim there's a strong liberal bias in the media when logic and simple common sense--as well as a wealth of evidence gathered by the likes of CAP or whoever--indicate the opposite is true. And how so many buy it.

But it was your later post, nytemare, that really explains it in a way I hadn't considered it. I realize you can't expect a LTTE comparing current events to those of the early years of the Third Reich to get published, but thank you for talking about it here.

4. No one wants to see the propaganda for what it is

I think we just don't want to admit that what happened in Germany can happen here. The difference here is that when Hitler rose to power, the economy was awful, and he blamed the Jews, etc. Now, Bush is making our economy awful, blaming it on 9-11 which he blamed on those who "hate our freedoms".

It may be human nature to not think we are capable of something other countries did, but when you see our freedoms seeping away, and the secrecy of the administration, it is not that far fetched.
