Sure wish as many Americans cared about sending our soldiers off to die
as they do about Terri Schiavo.

Of course Schiavo is being used for political purposes...but then so were -and are- our soldiers.

1. But
Our troops are dying in a war against non-Christians, liberals, gays, and so on. The more that die, sooner Jesus will return.

2. And he's going to be real pleased with our massacring other people.
I can tell from reading his words. Quite the warmongering bloodthirsty guy, Jesus was.

:eyes:

We really have way above our fair share of morans in this country, don't we.

3. Or the Iraqi death toll. Or the humanitarian crises in Africa.
It's a morbid circus and her parents should be deeply ashamed.

5. The politicians using this for their political agenda s/be more ashamed.
How come the article with quotes from the Houston hospital director saying the hospitals pull the plug if you can't pay the bill didn't get a fraction of this attention???

7. Her parents don't have the brains to feel ashamed.
At least we can find consolation knowing that Terri Schiavo is brain dead and completely oblivious to what is going on.

This whole debate brings to my mind a vision of savages running around fighting over what's to be done with a dead chicken.

Being of sound mind and body, I hope that if I am ever in a situation like hers they will either let me die or use my body for experiments. That is my wish because I do not want to be a burden on my family or society. Once in that situation, nothing will matter. If people wish to waste resources keeping my body functioning, then WHATEVER.

I won't be giving a shit at that point.

6. Well, most of them scream, so I'd say it's a safe bet they do.
Not that most the American public would know that as their beautiful minds aren't exposed to such realities of what they've sent American kids, too young to even legally drink, to see and to hear and to suffer from.

I wonder nowadays if most Americans, if they were allowed to see the real realities, would even give a damn.

That's why the realities are being hidden.

10. Really? Scot Peterson, Michael Jackson, Janet's tit; now a woman
15 years brain-dead. But no public outcry when a Houston hospital director says hospitals will pull the plug when families can't pay the life-support hospital bills.

2 years later and not one single national memorial service.

I know many Americans do care, but I don't believe any longer that most do or would. I never thought half this nation would believe torture is ok, or would accept Gitmo, or wars of aggression as US official policy. But they do.

20. You're confusing media hype with what Americans really care about....
I'm surprised that you're making the mistake of thinking that rightwing propaganda appearing in the media represents the thinking of most Americans.

21. Actually I wasn't even thinking about the rightwingnut-owned MSM.
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 04:17 PM by LynnTheDem
I was thinking my every day daily life. Where most people off the military base that I meet up with don't give a damn about our troops; they care about Janet's boob.

I was also thinking about how many threads or responses to US soldier threads appear on DU compared to the latest MSM "made-for-Americans" scandal threads.

9. What Americans care about is not what is reported as 'news'.
What BFEE cares about is reported AS news.

Just because it's on tv all night and day doesn't mean it's what we want to see.-people think it's about ratings, but it isn't anymore.

12. I still don't understand why so many people voted for chimpie
Fifteen hundred Americans are dead. I read that 60 percent of chimpie voters believe Iraq was connected to 9/11. What about the other 40 percent?
The sheeple that are with the repuke congress on this issue are the same people that went beserk over Elian. "Fuck the law. Let's do what is convenient."

22. I don't understand why so many Americans believe that there was an....
...actual election in 2004. Lots of people went to the polls, and lots of people cast their votes...but there are no checks or balances on the software used to tabulate the votes.

I don't understand why some Americans believe any of the poll numbers being reported by the rightwing-controlled mainstream media.

I don't understand why some people continue to believe anything reported by the rightwing-controlled mainstream media.

It's clear to me that they just don't understand what's happened in this country. They clearly know that something has happened, but they continue to believe that the mechanisms of true democracy still function as if nothing had changed.

But those same people have to blame someone or something, so they point the finger at each other just like a circular firing squad.

They don't sell nearly as many SUV's as Terri and Michael and Janet's tit.

16. I imagine that hundreds or even thousands of Terri Schiavos
have been CREATED in Iraq. We will never hear about THEM. They languish at Walter Reed or some dark corner of Veteran's hospitals. If 60% of the injuries (I read here on DU, don't have link handy) are serious brain injuries, there must be many now who are in Terri Schiavo's condition. Will we hear from their parents and spouses?

18. Its really simple
personalize it. Ask anyone, "would you want to be a vegetable??", "would you insist on burdening your loved ones with your care once you lose all meaningful brain function that separates a human being from any other creature??"

My guess is that most Americans do not want to live as vegetables, and would rather be allowed to pass on to the afterlife....
