I will be happy when gas is 5$ a gallon, the draft is instated and
all the other things happen.

then we will see how loyal the repukes are.

They are all happy about their itty bitty tax refund checks but they don't realize that with bush and friends raping of america will cost them sooooooooooo much more

1. At least they can't blame Kerry...
They'll try though, then they'll blame Clinton, and Kennedy, and LBJ, and all the Democratic Senators, and most the Democratic Representatives. Then they'll blame ....and so on and so on and so on.

now they regret voting for him

6. I'm not sure about tax breaks - for the first time in 6-7 years, I owe
the Feds for income tax. Didn't do anything different from last year, except for making a few extra bucks this year.

I've been wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them.

24. That doesn't mean anything
the bottom line is the final tax. If you have to pay this year, your employer didn't take enough out of your check, that's all.

The tax rate is down, personal deduction is up. If you have to pay more, maybe you made more this year? Or anything else that changed?

34. I did make more in 2004.
I've made more in previous years, but given the lower Fed taxes not as much comes out each pay - that's the biggest change.

I assume others are having this problem.

20. Sure some of what you are hoping for is happening
but that doesn't make your hope any good. It's not right to hope for poverty amongst the majority of Americans. To say that you will be happy when it happens implies a couple of things.

1. You don't give a shit about the poor.
2. You are some yuppie elitist who will be vulnerable from all of this. While all of us are at the bottom, you'll be sitting on a pile of money laughing at all of us? Thanks pal, thanks a lot. How Democratic and humane of you. :eyes:

25. It will show Bush for the devil he is, and assure a Democrat will be voted
in all seats to have control. Then, like Clinton, they will start off with a counry sinking and bring it back up stronge again. That will show that the Repugs don't know what they're doing and that the corporations rely on the people not the other way around.

BUT when fucktard was re-elected I get rid of ALL my credit card debt

all we owe is our house and car.

so while things might squeeze us, those repukes who think he is their savior, will HAVE to start to question.

Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 05:17 PM by Tweed
Yeah, it's a term that gets thrown around a lot these day, but it's valid in this situation. If you wish for the downfall of this country, that's unpatriotic. No doubt about it. I'd be amazed if you could find a valid argument against that.

It took a great depression to wake the sheeple up two generations ago
It will take at least that to make it happen again. There is nothing unpatriotic about hoping the disastrous effects of the Repug dominance occur quickly so we can get it over with.

In fact, the greater the pain in the short term, the better the chance we can get our country back on the road to peace and prosperity for all--in the shortest amount of time.

Otherwise we are looking at a slow death of liberty and the middle class.

21. Yes there is and it sounds cruel and moronic to boot!
If you say to people "I can't wait for there to be another Great Depression", you sound like someone who wants other people to suffer. Not only that but it makes it sound as if you are going to be vulnerable from the collapse and everyone else is going to suffer. I'm glad you have found an escape route, I haven't. If the economy collapses, I'll be in some big trouble.

Besides, a Great Depression may not even be needed. The balance in Congress is not that overwhelming. If the Democrats pick up 16 seats in '06, we take back the House. If we win five seats in the Senate, we take back that too. Will it be easy, no? But it's not like its impossible. People won't stand for the new Social Security issue, but Bush seems to continue to push it. Any congressman that attaches himself to that policy is likely to find themselves out on the street come the 109th Congress.

You aren't going to convince a lot of people to vote Democratic if you go around and say "I can't wait for a Great Depression". They'll vote for Republicans thinking that Democrats hope for economic disaster.

32. I agree with that
But you would have to agree it is wrong to 'hope' for a deep recession. There are other ways the Democrats could get back into control.

I'm not denying that we might go into one and that the Democrats may only get back the House by this country having one. I just happen to think we may avoid a recession and the Democrats can still regain control.

13. The Pain Threshold...
Somehow, somewhere, someday, this regime will mis-step and it won't be able to squirm away as easily as they had in the past.

In the 60's Tet was the real threshold that began the change of the politcal dynamic as the war myths were shattered and people finally started to realize what a bad mess the Vietnam war had become. Unfortunately it took nearly 4 years, several thousand dead, nearly 500,000 involved and another 5 years of agony and death ahead. We're not even seeing much protest on the campuses or in the streets. People just aren't feeling it...Iraq is still a war that's on TV...easily tuned out if it gets too ugly or boring.

Also the economy somehow continues to sputter along with less jobs and fewer opportunities. Costs are rising, incomes are stagnant or shrinking, but we haven't hit the point yet where enough people are hurting to want to even hear of the kleptocracy of our treasury by the corporate raiders...unless your name is Martha...and even then, it's a happy ending.

In 1979, despite several attempts to bring down the mighty Democratic machine through exposing it's corruption and ham-handed ways, it took a snowstorm, and it's inability to react that broke the threshold that made people say "enough is enough". I'm waiting for that snowstorm to hit this regime.

Cheers!
