So Tenent's CIA fails to prevent 9/11 and
Tenent's CIA authorizes misinformation in the SOTU speech.
And the President still has complete confidence in him.
Doesn't inspire confidence in the President does it?

2. One thing that has been missed
is that the CIA reviews presidential speeches to be sure that they do not reveal classified material -- not to be sure that they are true. It would be quite right for CIA to approve a presidential speech that was a tissue of lies, so long as it did not have any classified truths in it!

rogerashton -- on the road but still online.

3. Interesting point....
I think you are correct. CIA is not the Presidential fact checker. What if George had said Saddam was a cannibal? Would the CIA have been in trouble if he they had not corrected this falsehood?

If State secrets are not part of the President's speech, then why is it any concern of CIA what the pretzeldent says?

Another thing, I'm sure that this same evidence was stated on numerous occaisions....was the CIA asked to review other speeches for veracity of statement?

4. From what I've read, the CIA warned repeatedly
about the potential for 9/11 - but BushCo responded with inaction and downright enabling, relaxing airport security, refusing to authorize a specific type of investigation on filght school students who had aroused suspicion, etc. My take on it was that the CIA's attempts to prevent 9/11 were blocked by BushCo, either because they wanted it to happen, or because they made it happen.

5. KGBII- KING GEORGE BUSH II DECREES: MATTER CLOSED MOVE ON SHEEPLE
THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release
July 12, 2003

Memo: SOTU Matter Closed.

"The president considers the matter closed and wants to move on."

- Ari Fleischer

Got that, NY Times? Wash Post? CNNFOXMSNBCABCNBCCBS?

The Littlest King has declared the matter of his deliberately lying to the American people in his State of the Union speech closed.

He "wants to move on." (For the slower among you, that means you are now to "move on.")

Baaa!

All further inquiry will be noted in the building, and will be answered by our informing the questioner: "The American People trust this president ..." thus, making the rogue reporter appear not only at odds with "The American People," but unpatriotic.

However, in the event any of your colleagues do ask additional questions requiring further stonewalling, you are permitted to continue to write with "grudging admiration" about White House "discipline" in staying "on message" and "handling" the news media "brilliantly."

6. Interesting note inserted here: Cleveland Stadium has a former
Secret Service Dept. head as the head of security.

Rush-lite Triv interviewed him last year, asking about "hints" and "feelings".

As this guy said, the SS never went to the Pres without having solid evidence that something was amiss. You have a "gut" feeling, you better have some good stuff to back up changing anything.

Which really makes it sad that the Bush Lie support group says that there was more than just the Nigerian nuclear document to support their reasoning, but we see now that their strongest piece of evidence was a bumbling forgery (pointed out in the Washington Times, as mentioned here at DU, MONTHS before the SOTU address).

7. Tenet got the goods on BUSHLER!

The CIA is safe because they have the documentary evidence on Bush. So, of course, Bush has complete confidence in Tenet.

Even the departing Clinton National Security Advisor gave Condescenda the big briefing on Bin Laden and how fighting terrorism would take up most of her time. Condescena said, "Really?" and devoted all of two National Security Council meetings to anti-terrorist before 9-11.

The deal is, though, Tenet has the goods on Bush. Remember all the big pre-9-11 briefings in Crawford? "Critical: Planes may be hijacked by bin Laden and flown into national landmarks!" Ashcroft (and reportedly other government officials) warned off civilian aviation. And the rest of the country got zip.

That's what's frightening Rove: Bush KNEW and he didn't do anything about it. Those are the facts and it may just lead to the first (p)residential jail time.
