Something you never wanted to know about Jerry Falwell
an excerpt from his autobiography...

There were times that Dad’s pranks bordered on cruelty. One of his oil-company workers, a one-legged man he nicknamed “Crip” Smith, complained about everything. Dad and Crip’s co-workers got tired of the old man’s bellyaching and decided to take revenge. One morning Crip called in sick and Dad volunteered to send by lunch to his grateful but suspicious employee. Dad and his chums caught Crip’s old black tomcat, killed it, skinned it, and cooked it in the kitchen of one of Dad’s little restaurants. They called it squirrel meat and delivered it to Crip on a linen-covered tray. When Crip returned to work the next morning, Dad and his co-conspirators asked him how he liked his meal. They knew he would complain even about a free home-cooked lunch, and when Crip called it “the toughest squirrel meat” he had ever eaten, they were glad to tell him why.

—The Reverend Jerry Falwell, in “Strength for the Journey: An Autobiography.”

4. Another DU'er posted this a couple of weeks ago
I hoped I would never see it again.

BTW, there is something else you probably wouldn't want to know about Teletubby. He is linked to a Dictator who has murdered over 70,000 people.

8. thanks for the insight
Falwell's father was a psychopath, that's obvious. No wonder Jerry is such a hateful bastard. Falwell, Dobson, Robertson, are hypocrites of the highest order. Run 'em outta town on a rail I say.

11. We can take comfort in the fact that he is so full of shit that
the story is probably made up. What else is he truthful about? Isn't he always inventing things out of the past?

I don't buy this for a second as there would have surely been a reprisal--if not for the love of the cat, at least for being made to look like a fool in front of so many.

14. Would you make up a story like this...
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 01:03 PM by skypilot
...about your dad? And if he is, in fact, making up such a story about his father, that is pretty sick in and of itself.

19. Again, I see where you're coming from...
I just think it's safe to assume he is full of shit. Would a logical person make up such a thing about their dad? No. Is Falwell logical? No. Perhaps I'm in error to assume the opposite on him for whatever he says.

20. It's possible that he thinks....
...that this little anecdote paints his father as some kind of spunky, curmudgeonly, Southern type--the type of person some people would hear about and say to themselves with a smile "What a character that Falwell chap was." Jerry probably thinks that that will be most people's response. However, most people aren't psychos so we see how fucked up this story makes Falwell's dad out to be. You could be right. Maybe he is making it up but he'd have to be clueless as hell to think that this story casts his father in any kind of good or humorous light.

13. If you were writing your autobio...
...wouldn't you have left this OUT? Unless you were trying to convey what a complete sicko your dad was why would you include this story? He apparently sees it as a mere "prank". I think the word we're looking for is "crime".

self-loathing, hate-filled, apocalyptic-spewing, "God-fearing", preachers are in fact psychopathic maniacs, who, had they taken an ever-so-slightly different turn in the road of life, would have ended up as serial murderers.

EDIT: Instead of becoming one themselves, they merely inspire them.
