1. Lay golfed with Clinton.
He's so very sorry for those whose lives were ruined by people other than himself.

He knew nothing about the malfeasance taking place within Enron.

If he'd had more time Enron could have been saved.

It's all Fastow's fault.

3. I forgot about this one
If he'd had more time Enron could have been saved.

This was a big one.. if it wasn't for investors losing confedence in enron, Enron would still be up and running as a large comany.

8. Scott Pelley tried to give the impression of being tough but
yes.

Oh yeah, a big highlight was throwing out the first pitch at Enron Field's Opening Night. He got it across the plate.

11. Sort of
He was allowed to come off as just a reg'lar old Joe who was in over his head while the real thieves hid what they were doing from him. However, 60 Minutes guys aint stupid, and they countered with lawyers who characterized this correctly as the "Elmer Fudd Defense."

Anybody who is raking in six million bucks a year in salary alone is right in the middle of things. The lawyers pointed that out very clearly. A doofus they'd selected as fall guy could have been had much more cheaply.

Lay is obviously making the rounds of the news shows to try to deodorize himself so that when Bush pardons him it won't cause too much of a stink. After all, he's just a reg'lar old Joe, in over his head and surrounded by thieves.

4. He may have been fooled, but he's no fool...
Enron's fundamental businesses were sound, Skilling and Fastow are to blame, he's now worth only $20 million and afraid it will disappear b/c of legal fees. I watched, but didn't give it my full attention - can't stand the sight of him. The 60 Minutes reporter wasn't too swift - not sure who the guy was. Seemed like the CBS version of Stone Phillips.
