Webster's Dictionary to Recognize the Term "Partial-Birth Abortion"
I found this at the bottom of a story about how Websters was adding "wedgie" to its cannon.

CLEVELAND - Wedgie, a teenager's locker-room nightmare, has made it into the dictionary. Webster's New World College Dictionary based in Cleveland said wedgie was among its new additions to its latest edition.

.....

The additions include Al Qaeda, blog, cargo pants, irritable bowel syndrome and partial-birth abortion.

5. I Doubt It
I expect they'll plainly go with the "definition" and not mention who uses it, or why.

I'd love to write the editors a letter and rip 'em one, but that would make me the language police, wouldn't it?

It strikes me we need to find some terms of our own and get them public.

3. The dictionary selects terms based on usage
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 08:32 AM by gollygee
not on whether they're correctly used, or are medically recognized terms. Just simply based on whether people are using the term. Which, in this case, they are.

It's sad though. Not so much that Webster's is adding the word, but that people have responded to the propoganda and are using it enough to make Webster's think it's worthy of addition.

4. How 'bout "Clean Air Act?" Or "No Child Left Behind?"
"Clean Air Act" an act by congress that guarantees more pollution.

"No Child Left Behind" an education initiative that leaves children behind.

6. this is so untrue and the fundies...argh!
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 10:16 AM by Blue_Roses
Partial birth abortion does not exist. This is total bullshit and I hate when the fundies use this word. They only use it to make their political statement to raise emotions.
