What if I formed an organization called "GodHatesChritians", and
protested church and other religous activities? And what if I called for the deaths of chritians, much like Fred Phelps does to gays?
Would I be arrested, charged, convicted and jailed?
Or would my First Amendment rights protect me?

1. I think the Chritian community'd be mighty pissed.
Religionists, on the other hand, might not care.

2. They'd have a fit
You would not be protected by the First Amendment because speech that incites violence is not protected. Phelps is protected because of who he speaks against.

4. And if a group of homosexuals snapped and got violent?
It could happen if people are pushed too far.

They put up with so much. :( I'm surprised nobody has popped and gone on a killing rampage or something.

17. What? I don't understand what you're saying?
Why is one hate speech and the other is not?

Is it because the object is gays in one and christians in the other?

If it would be hate speech to do so against christians, then why would it not be hate speech to do exactly the same thing against any other object (gays, women, men, etc.)?

Please explain yourself.

3. First Amendment would
probably win. With the ACLU that is, as its only saving grace.

5. There was a group of protestors that were arrested
for using hate speech against Gays at a Gay rally. There ARE limits on freedom of speech. Hate crime laws vary state to state but inciting violence is a federal limit on freedom of speech.

So, it depends on exactly how you say it and where. It would be funny to see a spoof website on the Phelps fundie freaks.

7. More than likely
In this country you better believe it. Every single one of the fundies will be at your door and at the hearing calling for your head. Quite sad isn't it? But yet when something horrible happens to someone that gets them either dead or barely hanging onto their life by some fundie it's called God's work. :argh:

15. Yes Indeed
I sometimes think Nero and the other pagan Roman Emperors had the right idea. At least, if early Christians were as intolerant and full of hate as our 21st Century fundies.

11. NEVER!
They would lock you in a room then throw away the room (from an older movie with John Lithgow, can't remember the name).

BTW - anybody notice on Phelps website http://www.godhatesfags.com/, the 2nd statement of the "gospel truth" says "god hates all workers of iniquity". One of the definitions of iniquity is gross injustice. Kind of ironic isn't it, when THEY are the ones committing the gross injustice.

14. "Manhattan Project"
was the film with that quote.

Besides, I'm a Christian, and I hate the actions of Phelps and people, so "God Hates Christians" isn't completely accurate. I'll stick with "God Hates Phelps."

I thought it was Manhattan Project, but I wasn't sure. Good movie, proved that according to the government, we are all expendable.

20. As much as I appreciate the humor of the phrase "God Hates Phelps,"
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 08:55 AM by Bertha Venation
I find it somewhat perverted. I am an atheist but having been a fundamentalist evangelical Christian for my first thirty years or so, I know that the teaching of Christians is that God hates no one.

If any of the Bible can be believed as at least a historical record, Christ's teaching shows this well enough to prove that Phelps is wrong, and "God hates Phelps" is wrong, too.

edit: typo

bashed, receive hate mail, death threats, etc...

Then it would all blow over and everyone would ultimately just write you off as another raving loon then move on to the next big story that floated across their eyeballs.

The public has a relatively short attention span unless you are a Hollywood celebrity.

BTW that URL might be available www.godhateschristians.com doesn't seem to be occupied. It would make for an entertaining spoof site to see how many of the religious nuts would swallow the bait and think it was for real.

27. No. Use a term like zealot to differentiate. The term Christian covers
a wide range of belief. Take me for instance. I believe there was a man named Jesus. I'm just not so sure he was the son of God. But, I believe in his teachings, just not those of Paul, the egotist. :hi:

28. Well, considering, they got it wrong...
Apparently they don't read their own bible. God doesn't hate PEOPLE. He hates the ACTIONS of those people. God doesn't strike down sinners. And it's his place to judge, not those idiot, so-called Christians like Fred Phelps. They are just bored and looking for ways to make themselves feel better about their lowly lives on this earth. They're wrong and stupid. It's not fair to lump them with all christians. There are some of us out there who aren't bitches like that.
