“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” (Edmund Burke).
I read the posts of many here (myself included) who at times seem defeated or near apathy when confronted with the all-pervasive, pernicious lies and injustices perpetrated by this administration. When faced with the glaring enormity of the task at hand in defeating them, it truly does seems almost impossible at times and it can make one feel, in a word, "hopeless."
Well, for some reason or another, I had a dream last nite involving Mother Theresa (don't even me why, I have NO idea). It touched me that by helping one person at a time, she made a difference in THEIR life... one day, one person at a time. When faced with the enormity of HER task, I'm sure it would have excuseable for her to feel "what can I do? I'm just one person." Yet, everyday she worked tiredlessly to bring comfort to the lepers, cleaning their wounds, giving them love, comfort, and respect... one person at a time.
Soon after Mother Theresa received the Nobel Peace Prize for her work in Calcutta, she was asked how she could dedicate herself to her work when it was obvious she was not going to eliminate hunger, disease, and poverty from that densely populated city in India. Her reply was simple yet profound: she said, "God has not called us to success, but to faithfulness." (see:

This inspired me. I read a lot of opinions from people on the internet who are outraged at the evil that is pervading every aspect of this fine country of ours. That consciousness is real. It exists. There are vast numbers of people in this country who KNOW this administration is only about power, lies, deceit and, above all, greed... in a word: evil.
Gandi never gave up when faced with the enormity of the task at hand. When asked about war, he said, "It is impossible to end hatred with hatred."
I know, we all have very busy lives to live, while at the same time fighting for our very survival. So, the point of all this is: I can
at least do my part to help turn things around. There are small things I can do on a daily basis: I can write, fax, e-mail and call my senators and representatives. I can contribute on various blogs like DU and encourage. I can try to educate. I can shine a light on the lies. I can help get out the vote. I can join other groups with like-minded goals, such as PDA and Move-On and help where and when I can.
Others may say, "oh, what's the use in that? They'll just find other way to smash you down anyway." Well -- maybe, and then again, maybe not. If enough people just decide that they are going to their part, no matter how small or how big, it just might make a difference. One thing for sure: I won't sit around and do nothing but complain.
Thanks for listening. I am no one to preach (well, it IS Sunday), but hopefully, my thoughts may encourage others.
As I grow older, I am realizing that the destination is not all that is important. The journey is often the most fulfilling.
