My neighbor acros the street has 4 "Support Our Troops"
magnets plastered on her car bumper. She is very pro-Bush and pro-war. Well, I decided I have had it. I went to CafePress.com and ordered a bumper sticker which reads "Support Our Troops, Bring them Home." I can't wait to receive it as I am anxious to see her reaction to it, and of course, all the thousands of other drivers on the roads here in No. Georgia who have those yellow magnents on their cars.

1. I live above you
in Tn and see those magnents everywhere. I wonder where the money goes to though? I know they have to pay for making it (so much percentage I think) but what about the rest? How about sending money to VA hospitals to help them out? I bet with all the money they have they can buy every veteran at least one meal a day for a year.

3. I've confronted people in parking lots with those stupid magents
Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 02:18 PM by Skittles
I have yet to find one who does ANYTHING to support the troops other than sport a stupid sticker on their SUV. The poster is correct - they are PRO-WAR, NOT pro-troops. NO ONE who is pro-this piece of shit phony war could really be supporting the troops.

6. Good point
My local hardware store has the ribbons for sale & they aren't cheap.

I am in a letter writing mode, so I may write a letter suggesting that those people who support the troops should contribute money to veterans groups that actually do good work with veterans. I have contributed small amounts to DAV and Eastern Paralyzed Vets.

26. I have a piece of cardboard in my car that says,
"I used my money to give to the troops instead of a yellow ribbon corp."

I also live in Tennessee and my car hasn't been keyed, yet.

2. I just sent an email to the Washington Post
pointing out that the Republicans defeated a Democratic amendment to the bankruptcy bill that would have provided protection to troops fighting in Iraq.

You might want to write a similar letter to your local paper.

And I certainly approve of your new bumper sticker.

8. I like the ribbon (Bring the troops home now)
Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 02:23 PM by Frances
I think it's important that the administration not be able to divide the country into 2 groups: those that support the troops and those who spit on the troops.

I, for one, was against the Vietnam War, but I felt so sorry for the young people who had to fight it.

fiberglass and the magnets won't work. So the next best thing was a bumper sticker. It has what Ford calls the "crunch factor." And believe me, it works because I was rear-ended a few years ago. A truck hit me. I wasn't hurt, but my car's back end was a mess.

30. Never too old to do cooking or logistics support for Halliburton
Anytime one of those gung-ho kill-em-all repukes tells you how they'd be enlisting except they're too {old/crippled/overweight/whatever} please feel free to remind them that there's a huuuuuge private sector enterprise underway in Iraq and Afghanistan to provide the soldiers with food, lodging, and entertainment. Truckers especially would be very much in demand, but anyone who could type, bake, sing, swing a hammer, push a mop, change a bedpan, or set a table should be able to find something productive to do on site.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE SHORT OF QUADROPLEGIA OR IMMINENTLY TERMINAL ILLNESS FOR THE PRO-WAR WINGNUTS NOT TO BE OVERSEAS "SUPPORTING THE TROOPS" FOR REAL. And even the quadroplegics could potentially be teaching English to interested Iraqis.

29. I Hope That You Receive this in the Positive Manner in Which it is ...
intended. I just called CafePress and talked with a pleasant young man concerning the "origins" of production of items which they retail on their site. He will be doing some research and letting me know about some of the items which he was not sure of.

He did say the "messenger bag" was made in China, the coffee mugs were foreign made, and the "apparel items were American made.

I know that there are other sites that market the "NOT ME" wrist bands that are produced in China, then "stamped" with the "NOT ME" impression by an American post prodution firm.

There is a very big market for political items from many distributors/retailers that capitalize on the current political stream of expression. I simply wish to "not assume" that the consumers are aware of where the items are produced.

If you have any doubts, please call the retailer.

:-)

airport) ,they often have them. And send them some diapers and wet wipes, or toilet paper or paper towels. Then when your neighbor says something to you about the support she feels for the troops, ask her if she has done this too. I made several donations to the uso office at Honolulu airport while we were stationed in Hawaii. The family's need this support. Incidentally, while we were traveling to our next duty station, we ran out of diapers and formula for our 9 month old. the hotel staff in Atlanta drove us to a 7-11(very late at night) after picking us up at the airport so we could buy this stuff. The military travel office routed us through the least direct and most time consuming route from Hawaii to Atlanta via LA and Salt Lake City and DC. More than 12 hours flying with an infant and my hubby's golf clubs.

I saw another that said. "Take your yellow ribbon and wrap it around your damn neck!" I thought that would be a little dangerous around here. It would draw a mob. I would say 8 out of 10 cars have those damn magnets on them. Really pathetic.
