Beanie Babies for Bombs?
Hi,

I have a friend who heard that there is a family who is sending beanie babies to the soldiers in Iraq, they then give those beanie babies to children and those children tell the soldiers where the bombs are. Has anyone heard of this? If you have, do have or know any info where to donate the beanie babies to get them to the soldiers?

Thank you!

1. Which bombs are the Iraqi children disclosing, U.S. or Iraq's?

2. I think that happened one time, supposedly
Some troops were going down a street in Iraq, and there was a little girl just sitting in the street with a beanie baby they had given her a few days before. She wouldn't move, so they got out and looked around and discovered a road side bomb. They thought she knew where the bomb was and was trying to warn them by sitting in the street. I personally don't even think it's true. I think it's one of those urban legends that keep coming out of Iraq. You know, the good news that our media won't tell us about.

4. Hi, whitedove!
Welcome to DU!

It's entirely up to you, but I'd advise against it...strongly.
Security in Iraq, quite frankly, is abyssmal. Because of this many adult Iraqis are extremely reluctant to even be seen talking with American soldiers for fear of retribution.

There have been groups of bodies popping up here and there, many beheaded, all dead and they have included women and children.
I'm sure the soldiers mean well, but if the adults won't talk because they are unprotected from retribution (if we can't protect police captains and judges you can bet some no-name child will be left completely unprotected) then I'd have to say giving a toy to a kid to get them to talk is wrong with a capital "stupid".

I wonder if any of those children's bodies they've turned up clutched beanie babies.
Until it's safer, I personally wouldn't endanger children that way.

6. If you can find a way to get toys directly to those kids you let me know.
I'll see if I can find anything. :hi:
