Considering president Condi and her Spinster status... Was Buchanan not married? Was there ever not a first spouse?

Cleveland was single when he was elected and his sister served as First Lady until he married Francis Folsom Cleveland. She was the first person to marry a sitting president.

Are all unmarried women derided as "spinsters" now, or just the ones we don't like?

Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren and Chester Alan Arthur were also widowers. Mrs. Jackson died in the weeks between her husband's election and his inauguration.

John Tyler and Woodrow Wilson both became widowers while residing in the White House and remarried later.

8. It's not really that she's not married...

It's a factor for alot of americans, but also, she just seems to have a cold personality. Bush is an asshole, but people seemed to like that fake 'regular guy' thing.

The only 'likeable' 2008 repuke candidate is McCain.
