"When you need an ancient mystery solved, you don't go to the Government. You call on the experts."
That's the tag line to Matthew McConaghey's new movie "SAHARA", based on Clive Cussler's 16 novels based on Dirk Pitt. A few changes were made.
*In Cussler's books, NUMA (National Underwater Marine Agency) is a government research and exploration agency, who's main concern is environmental protection and study of the oceans. Sort of an oceanic NASA.
*In the film, NUMA is a fledgling PRIVATE shipwreck grave robber company in search of treasure, fortune and glory.
*In Sahara the book, Pitt and crew are sent up the Niger river to investigate a strange algae that has ben killing the waterlife in the Delta, discover a link to strange human deaths and find treasure by happenstance.
*In Sahara the movie, Pitt seeks out the treasure first and comes across some strange human deaths.
http://www.saharamovie.com/Seems a bit Randian (enlightened self interest BS) if you ask me. I might be reading too much into this, as it is just a simple adventure movie, but this is McConaughey...the man believed to be the one closest to the mike booing Michael Moore at the Oscars 3 years ago. He is credited as exec producing Sahara, so he might be injecting his politics into this as well.
