Here it is folks...
...the "headline" from Justin Raimondo's latest offering on "antiwar.com" for your perusal:

"The Specter of Fascism: Before Bush there was Franklin Delano Roosevelt"

http://antiwar.com/justin

Just how progressive does that sound? Read the whole column, and then ask yourselves: why were certain admirer's of this bunch trying to call a respected member of DU out?

1. If you go too far left, you end up on the other side.

Like the Nazi-Soviet pact.

5. What on earth ever led you to believe that anti-war.com is a left
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 01:19 AM by ConsAreLiars
or far left site? That sort of simpleminded knee jerk anti-leftism doesn't serve you or DU very well. The guy is a Buchananite rightist. http://www.antiwar.com/raimondo/book1.html

7. Actually I never DID think that. But an awful lot of DUers do, evidently.

It's one of my least favorite sites.

I was referring to the DUers who like the site as going too far left - not the website itself.

6. Stalin exterminated the left.
If you went too far left under Stalin, you were exiled or murdered. He was nothing but a Czar.

And there was nothing ideological about the non-agression pact. It was high stakes realpolitik.

2. FDR was addressing a legitimate threat, Bush wasn't
Hitler was a legitimate threat to the world. He had conquered almost all of Europe and was well on his way to taking the rest. Britain had very little left to fight with by the time we got into the war and Russia looked hopeless until we were able to open up the second front. Not to mention that Germany was also in the process of developing a nuclear weapon just like we were.

Saddam Hussein was a contained old dictator who didn't even have the loyalty of half of his army and wouldn't sleep in the same place for more than one night. Oh yea, and unlike Hitler, Saddam WASN'T developing a nuclear weapon, or any chemical or biological ones for that matter.

3. It's all about Iraq & Bush -
The common ground the left has with many libertarians is opposing the Iraq War. Some of them are quite articulate in their opposition to the war.

Also some are surprisingly anti-Bush and quite articulate about that, too. The sentiment is the same, but the goals are different.
