A question about outing....smearing Ron Reagan

I remember when *everyone* knew Ron Reagan, Jr. was gay. I thought so because it was all the gossip said so. Well, he's married and has a child. The rumors stopped. Do the rumors ever stop? I'm sure someone will post that you can be gay and have a child and marriage.

I'm concerned about the outings for many reasons. First, why is it a problem if you are gay or lesbian? I don't see many lesbians outed but whatever.

We need to be very careful when in our glee when a hypocrite is outed. I admit, I am gleeful when I find out that Ken Mehlman is gay. I just love the idea that this hateful party that uses hatred towards gays as a winning issue is headed by a gay man. Still...can't quite be nice about this one. Moving on, we can't be gleeful for all the outings. Some poor idiot working on the hill for the first time for a bigot does not deserve to be outed. He/she needs time to form their opinions and develop their understanding of politics.

I just want to start another discussion about this. I'm not sure about my own opinion on this and my response.

Can we try to keep it civil?

5. Technically speaking...

a man who has a wife and a child of his own, and who also sees other men as sexual objects, is bisexual--not gay. Ron Reagan could quite easily be bisexual. The bisexual husband with wife and kids is a MUCH more common paradigm than most people know.

The gay community is small, tight, and people talk. We are getting sick and tired of being used and abused, so if you don't want to claim us in the daytime, don't fuck us after dark.

It's that simple. There is something called assumption of risk, and rightwing hatemongers who moonlight as size queens have the right to either refuse the risk or pay the consequences. Like they are apt to tell us, "keeping your pants zipped is the best way to stay out of trouble". What say we pitch in and get them some promise rings?
