How will the republican party of today be remembered 100 years from now?
I was reading about the robber barons of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and I realized they reminded me quite a bit of today's republican party.

Here's how I think they will be remembered 100 years from now (if human beings actually evolve):

They will be remembered as a party that tapped into the deep wells of human prejudice and fear without so much as a hint of shame or remorse for doing so.

They will be remembered as the most craven and most successful war profiteers to ever walk the earth (the GOP mantra, Martha Stewart-style: money for blood, it's a good thing!).

They will be remembered as a party that would quite literally do anything to get and stay in power, including cheat, lie, steal and worst of all, start unnecessary wars.

They will be remembered as a party that took the United States and its people backward instead of forward, a party that asked people to live in fear instead of hope, and a party that had no conscience whatsoever.

And bush, among others, will forever be held up as the worst example of all that is bad in humanity, all that we humans have striven for years to overcome.

1. Yeah, but
it's part of their strategery to make sure that there won't be any future. If they get raptured, they win. If they don't, they'll still have outlived the rest of us, even as they burn the last of the oil and breathe the last of the oxygen and water the lawns in their gated communities with the last of the water.

2. evil
but the filter through which that evil is viewed depends entirely upon our species' ability to transcend the greed, fear, superstition and hatred in which we increasingly wallow.

also remember that the victors get to write the history.

6. It's a trick question.
The GOP of today is working their faux-pious asses off to ensure that there won't be a "100 years from now."

7. "Who knows? We'll all be dead."
Quote from bush when asked how the history will remember his administration.

I honestly don't think that signaled anything evil---I think he's just an incurious dumbass who couldn't answer a question if his life depended on it.

10. I think it signalled evil....
I knew guys and gals like this in Nashville. They were so ready for the Rapture that they called in sick on Jan 1, 2000 because many of them were sure that they'd be "taken" on that date. And it's this absolute sureness of their holy removal that causes them to treat the Earth and its future inhabitants with utmost contempt; I knew guys who would intentionally litter because they were SURE that when the Rapture came (which was bound to happen any day now....) they wanted to make life even worse for those "left behind." I'm not making this shit up.

Bush is the same way. He is so sure of the "end times" and his unearned dispensation from such an event that he wants to punish those who will be left to clean up the mess.

I once got into a debate with a con co-worker in Nashville about Bush's refusal to join the Kyoto treaty. He said that there's no reason to care about the environment since "We'll all be dead before we notice the effects." Never mind about how by saying this he ADMITTED that climate change is indeed underway, I was shocked. I asked him if he cared about future generations having to live under those conditions, ie. his own grandkids, and he told me that he and his family would be in Heaven and it'd be sinners like me who'd have to deal with it. And me being the Yankee Carpetbagger I was, you could tell that this situation really pumped his nads.

14. I would urge them all to go jump off a cliff
and go ahead and get their deaths overwith so they can leave this still lovely planet to people like us who actually care for it.

Also, I don't know but, I would think a Higher Power would be a bit upset at a person who trashed His or Her beautiful creation.

Idiotis. They all suffer from a hugely entrenched case of idiotis.

13. They will be reviled as the creators of the New Totalitarianism
BushPutinism or whatever name is finally given to this New Beast of Nazi Propaganda, Sovietized Media, and Imperial Roman government.

But I still am not convinced that there will BE any Free Nations in 100 years, considering living under some form of Tyranny seems to be by far the most popular system of "government" throughout human history and even today.

think about it. Name the nation in the Free World. First off, none of the big ones are free: Amerika, Russia, China. Maybe India (only big population-wise).

So who comprises the Free World? Britain, France, Germany,a nd some of the rest of Europe? Japan? South Africa and maybe a handful of other African Nations or perhaps some Latin American ones?
It can;t be all that many and I would estimate that currently, no more than 5% of the total world's population is free or even remotely so (although one might make an argument for Amerika given the Bushevik Tyranny has not yet reached the Caligula/Nero phase)
