Arghhhhh - C-Span WJ This Morning
My head is about to explode! :grr:

Please, someone explain to me how ANYONE can support this bankruptcy legislation???

The bullshit coming out of the Repuke callers is appalling! They call up admitting they are not familiar with the provisions of this legislation, but say it is the best thing since sliced bread. Screw the poor and middle class. One asscrack stated that gambling is a major cause of bankruptcy. How stupid can you be?

I am going to CANCEL my credit cards. I can't think of any other way to fight this.

1. You Are Witnessing The Effects Of Rush Limbaugh's Freeper Programing
It is amazing how 15+ years of lies, told repeatedly, can be so effective at overcoming the self-interest of people.

2. I wouldn't be too much in a rush to cancel your credit cards.
You just may be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Do you ever rent a car? You need a credit card for that as rental car companies rarely take cash or a check card.

Do you ever shop on the Internet? It is best to use a credit card, so that you can dispute any problems with your order. Never use a bank card when shopping on the Internet.

3. Use a debit card
Mine works just fine for anything a credit card does. The only thing these folks understand is money, so I choose to hurt them in my small way by making selective use of my money. No walmart, no CCs, local merchants, etc...The WJ has had preponderance of Repugs and AEI people lately. What's up with that?

6. Here are many reasons not to use a debit card.
As you know, Clark Howard is a financial guru.

8. Thanx for the link!
It is more convenient than a pocket full of cash. If you are aware of the conditions attached to it's use I still think it preferable. What do you do? I am old and set in my ways, I guess.

9. I don't like carrying a lot of cash either.
I use my debit card for shopping at local merchants, but never for Internet shopping.

5. Yes, I Shop on the Internet . . .
but use direct debit from my checking account through Paypal where I can.

No - I do not rent cars. Had a very bad experience with a rental car company a while ago.

Maybe I overacted a bit with my cancel credit card statement, but I feel I have to DO SOMETHING! Credit card companies made phenomenal profits last year and I will be damned if I contribute to it.

10. Second Rant Regrading Social Security . . .
What is so hard for people to understand that Social Security is NOT an investment program, but an insurance program to ensure people are not living in poverty when they are old. :grr:

No one is stopping you from investing your own money if you are lucky enough to be able to afford it. So what the hell is a person supposed to do if they fall into the "cannot afford to invest category"?

I do not think I have ever been so angry. Gotta stop watching WJ.

11. The ONLY thing you can do
is pay off every penny of your credit card bill every month on time and don't charge what you can't afford to pay off. The place I started was with a budget that I drew up for myself. When I saw how casually I was paying interest each month, and then added up what that cost in a year's time, I resolved not to carry a balance ever again if I could help it.

I realize that if you have a catastrophic illness, divorce w/no support for the kids, or unemployment for an extended amount of time that you can be plunged into devastating debt and that is what is so horrible about this bill. But as long as I can manage it, I'll pay as I go. Also, I do need the credit card for air travel (family related mostly)and car rental.

12. Interestingly, Nobody Who Called. . .
Edited on Wed Mar-09-05 09:00 AM by ProfessorGAC
. . .really had a good reason. Most of them were just rambling nonsense (bad TV for the viewer) and couldn't really come up with a reason why the bill was a good idea. Just lockstep repubs.

The gambling guy really had me laughing. He wants to make bankruptcy harder to attain to stop the gambling. But, the money is already gone to the casino's at that point, and almost ALL casino operators donate to repub or libertarian causes. So, this guy wants to blame his own side, and make it harder for them to make money, without regard to the illness side to gambling problems.

Actually, there were 5 callers on the "Support Bush" line, in the first 30 minutes, who were against the bill. I found that very interesting.
