I'm tired of Alan Colmes' brand of liberalism...and I have an alternative!
I am so sick and tired of liberals being characterized as weaklings who crumple at an argument. Colmes is the subject of my ire as he's made a career of being Sean Hannity's bottom for years now. I'm offering some talking points and suggestions that others are more than welcome to add to or critique.
1) When any Republican/Neo-con offers a word of support for Wal Mart, with anger, outrage, and conviction call them a Communist supporter. Explain to them, vocally, that Wal Mart's purchases subsidizes the Red Army and allows Red China to actively threaten our ally, Taiwan. Go for volume in these arguments to get the attention of bystanders.
2) If Republicans/neo-cons start warmongering, ask them to either enlist or encourage their kids to do so. Tell them to put their asses where their mouths want to go. If they refuse to do so, imply they'd have likely been a draft dodging chickenhawk like Bush.
3) If they criticize any Democratic policy that would benefit average Americans, ask them why they hate America. Do it, as in #1, loud and with sincere outrage in your voice.
4) For gunowners only: If a gunner starts spouting NRA talking points about us "taking guns", remind them that the first ban was passed by G. HW Bush. Advise them that pundits such as George Will and Charles Krauthammer have consistently advocated a national ban on gun ownership.
5) Alternative energy and reduced emissions/consumption. If they oppose these measures, ask them why they support terrorism. Advise them ever OPEC dollar going to the Middle East buys munitions to support terror. Yes, it's not true, but who gives a shit? Put them on the defensive.
6) Unions and wages, if they oppose either increased minimum wages or union activity, ask them why they oppose their fellow Americans earning enough to live. Again, if they hesitate, ask them loudly why they hate America so much.
7) The environment, if they oppose clean air and water, ask them why they want to poison the American people. Again, stay on the initiative and never, ever let them get a word in edgewise on the issue.
8) If all else fails, ask them why they hate America so much. Do it with outrage, conviction, and volume. Shout these fuckers down, it's all they understand.
Your homework assignment is to take these points and implement them in private and on local/national talk radio call in programs.

Thanks for your time.

3. I think they keep him in a box like the gimp.
I like your ideas better. I'd say you should replace Colmes, but you seem much too intelligent to work at faux news.

It's so true! Colmes is wearing his little leather mask and ball gag outfit chained in a box! He must love it,though. And I thought Kinsley was a weakling.....

...that he gets the WORST callers??? Sometimes when my local AAR affiliate carries other programming (minor-league hockey, anyone? :eyes: ) I tune in to colmes out of desperation. Inevitably, some dumbass with a Red-state accent is parroting RNC talking points, while colmes sits there and takes it.

For a refreshing change, try Bernie Ward on KGO (streaming M-F 10 PM-1AM PST at www.kgo.com). HE eats wingnuts for lunch. Comes right back at them and refutes their crap. The best debater on the air. I really hope that he gets nationally syndicated.

7. i made similar points @ a DFA meetup last week
and got a negative response from one of the organizers. Although a good portion of the people there agreed with me, the chair didnt want any of it.

Fine, try to appeal to the Springer generation with intellectual vanity.

Great plan...

9. Intellectual vanity..
won't fucking cut it. Lenin, of all people, divided political speech into two forms: agitation and propaganda. Agitation is what I advocate: loud talking points that place the enemy on the defensive and force them to defend their patriotism. Propaganda is intellectual appeals to reason among those who are educated and interested. We aren't going for the latte-sipping Volvo drivers here, I'm addressing the core Freeper who may or may not be persuaded or the fence straddler.

8. If our so-called..
... leaders in Congress had half the sense you do we wouldn't be in this mess.

But they persist in speaking in the genteel tones of a time long past.

We have to rid ourselves of them, one at a time. Or perhaps convert the ones who are willing and able to meet the Repugs on their own ground.

In the meantime, we can take cold comfort in the fact that civil discourse is dead and all we have to do is learn to shout and thump our chests. It's really a lot easier than thinking, and the voting public eats it up.

10. It's time to be mean about it.
The polite, deferential liberal needs to be cast into the wastebin as an anachronism of old days. Americans love a loudmouth bully and we need to step up to the plate.

15. Yep. The right-wing hacks should be treated like right-wing hacks!!!
I'm with you!!!

I still maintain my softer side with fair-minded and gentle folks. But, I just have no tolerance for abusive, right-wing assholes!!! I've actually gotten good enough at cornering their mindless talking points that many either lose it or stomp away.
