Dear friends,
Remember the domino theory? We all heard that political justification for the Vietnam war. And we probably all took a second to consider it.

But what do we remember as the reality? It was an horrific conflict, with no clear resolution...we saw the body bags on TV. And those there saw much, much worse.

And, there was no domino...it was an ad campaign.

Heard that freedom is on the march? We all hear that political justification for the Iraq war. And we may all take a second to consider it.

Yet, what is the reality? Another horrific conflict, no clear resolution...body bags as real as those from Vietnam.

As before, there may be no domino, no freedom on the march...only another tragic PR campaign.

It's worth taking a second to consider.

2. It was insane then...
...and is now. We simply cannot just "pass along" a war as if it was a factory we built and trained them to run. As in Vietnam, the goal should not be giving the war to new managers. The goal has to be ENDING THE WAR!

4. That is really scary...
I don't think most people realize what the fuck is happening with this war or that it is going to lead to a series of wars. Or that we CAN get blown off the map now. Or hit again by terrorists.

They put up a missile launcher in a DC suburb recently, what does that tell us? Fucking A.

A Suburb's New Resident Draws Stares
Missile Launcher Installed At Naval Warfare Center As Part of U.S. Air Defense

By Mary Otto
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, February 27, 2005; Page C04

A large, drab green missile launcher -- aimed vigilantly skyward -- has become one of suburban West Bethesda's more distinctive landmarks. "Did you see that?" neighborhood resident Miriam Burton asked her husband, Alton, when she first spotted the weapon on a recent drive along the Clara Barton Parkway. "What the heck is going on there?"

The launcher is part of a NORAD program designed to tighten national security since 9/11, the Navy says. (Preston Keres -- The Washington Post)

The launcher has since December claimed a commanding position on the lawn at the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center's Carderock facility, a science and engineering center overlooking the Potomac River. The missile launcher has people talking, but the U.S. Navy is keeping mum about its specific capabilities. con't

11. I was watching
a movie on the Iraq war that had General Clark in it and they were talking to one guy who was talking who was head of Saddam's army and saying how he liked things now with the Iraq military (of course) and he was saying he thought they'd be ready in four-five years and this movie was made January 2005.

15. A US military general pal bet with hubby; he says 10 years, hubby says 12.
I say we'll be there 30...as long as it took the UK to be bled dry before giving up on their first occupation of Iraq.

Gen. Clark doing in it?

What are you talking about? (I'm not doubting you - we all know DU can be flame bait - I'm just REALLY wondering what movie this was).

Thanks! :hi:

18. Oh-no...read up on your PNAC... N. Korea isn't in the plans
It goes: Iraq, Syria (see, see), Lybia (already caved from pay-offs, so, thus, moving on...) Iran (upon being surrounded), Lebanon, Jordan (for staging and because it's justtoodamnclose to Israel) and Pakistan.

China - pbbbbbtttt... they're funding these wars by floating the dollar!

17. "You can't have peace without war". Talk about stupid, irrational,
nonsensical remarks.

Both remarks have to be among the Top 10 for total absurdity.

14. Sounds like the domino theory also applies to US citizens, lately
It has to do with more & more uninformed or just plain ignorant people falling for Orwellian Bushspeak. Now, it looks like Lieberman, Biden & Richardson are falling over to the right.

Anyway, you are right - now that I've realized the extent to which our gov't can lie to us about war, I see that it was a sales pitch.

All of the lives and resources wasted. History repeats itself today.
