Another "Friendly Fire" Incident Involving Our Troops In Iraq???
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 09:09 PM by DistressedAmerican
Jee-Zoo, These folks are having a banner freaking week over there in the big sandy. First the Italians, now a soldier from Bulgaria.

I would be extra, extra pissed if I was forced to go fight this war for some "Friend Of George" and then got killed by the Americans I was supposed to be there to support.

END THE WAR!

Bulgaria says soldier killed by US troops in south Iraq

ANDREW MARSHALL

Posted online: Tuesday, March 08, 2005 at 0126 hours IST

BAGHDAD, MARCH 7: US forces in Iraq faced more ‘‘friendly fire’’ embarrassment on Monday when Bulgaria said they had probably shot dead one of its soldiers.

The controversy raised questions over whether US troops are over-zealous in their efforts to crack down on insurgents, who killed at least 25 people in fresh attacks on Monday.

The Bulgarian soldier was killed in southern Iraq on Friday evening, around the same time that US Forces in Baghdad opened fire on a vehicle ferrying kidnapped Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena.

Bulgarian Defence Minister Nikolai Svinarov said an investigation into the death of the soldier showed he was probably accidentally killed by American troops.

2. Came to my attention in an email from a friend in Austria.
Interesting how much info they get OUTSIDE of the American bubble. Probably would never have seen it otherwise!

Private Gurdi Gurdev, aged 30, died on Friday evening, after his patrol came under fire some 45 km from camp Echo in the town of Diwany, Kadissiya province. The soldier was gravely wounded in the ambush and did not make it to hospital despite the efforts of other soldiers to revive him.

The young Bulgarian man was wounded several times in the chest, doctors said Saturday.

Private Gurdev was the eight Bulgarian soldier to die in Iraq since Bulgaria joined the multinational peacekeeping force there.

Even more dangerous than it was two years ago. Time to bring our boys home.
