Need exact quote from Dick Cheney
I need the exact quote from Dick Cheney about high gas prices being the sign of a failed presidency. I think he said it in 1998.

I'm going to teach these red state redneck idiots a lesson in where they live - their pockets. I'll be printing up little labels with this exact quote and putting one at every gas station pump I go to.

Thanks in advance for the help :)

"We know that Cheney himself while heading Halliburton did more business with Iraq than any other nation, even though it was under U.N. sanctions at the time. And we know that Cheney stated in a public speech to the London Petroleum Institute in 1999 that over the coming decade the world will need, in his words, "50 million barrels a day of extra oil," and he asked, quote, "Where is it going to come from?" And answering his own question he said, "The Middle East" -- with two thirds of the world's oil and the lowest cost is still where the prize ultimately lies."

Anything to increase supply would lower prices, assuming demand stayed the same, therefore by implication you have a similar statement to the one you are searching for !

4. I tried a lexis nexis search of
"dick cheney" and "failed presidency" and "gas price"
"dick cheney" and "gas" and "failed presidency"
"dick cheney" and "failed presidency"
in full text of major papers over the last ten years and none of these searches turned up what you are looking for.

I'll be happy to search again with different search terms if someone can suggest better ones.

5. I have two others....
Dick Cheney famously said, "The problem is that the good Lord didn't see fit to put oil and gas reserves where there are democratically elected regimes friendly to the interests of the United States." {quoted in the "Houston We Have a Problem" alternative annual report on Halliburton, April 2004}

6. Not what you're searching for ... but a real classic
In October 1986, when Dick Cheney was the lone congressman from energy-rich Wyoming, he introduced legislation to create a new import tax that would have caused the price of oil, and ultimately the price of gasoline paid by drivers, to soar by billions of dollars per year.

"Let us rid ourselves of the fiction that low oil prices are somehow good for the United States," Mr. Cheney, who is now vice president, said shortly after introducing the legislation.
