what would you duers do if...
you worked more than 40 hrs a week, only to be told by your boss you do not get paid for time and a half over 40 hrs. Just curious.

6. I am high $$$ hourly only. I am fortunate in being able
to dangle their need in front of their faces. I never bargain, but then I do not need to.

If I were in that position I would be on a constant undercurrent of jobhunting.... When the dealing gets tough, dive.

Then again, I'm speaking from Silicon Valley.

7. yeah, it just interesting that...
thanks to bush, people like me who work as a guest representative in a hotel can now work more than 40 hrs and not get paid time and half for over 40 hrs if my boss chooses not to pay me for that time. This president is the worst president ever.

8. I've never had a job that I was paid time and a half
over 40 hours. At least not in the last decade. I always work over 40 hours a week and never get overtime pay but I'm salaried so maybe it's different.

What state do you live in? If there's laws about it maybe we could find it on the internet. If not, you could check with your local or state government's office to see what the laws are in respect to hourly employees and overtime pay.

10. i get paid hourly and...
i have gotten time and a half for over 40 hrs a week every time so far, but thanks to our lovely president who can do no wrong (yeah who is he really kidding), if my employer doesn't want to pay me time and a half for over 40 hrs, she doesn't have to.

11. Ahhhh, I see...
So you used to get paid overtime. But now, thanks to our corporate politicians, you can work 70 hours a week and get paid for 40.

Another beautiful "uniquely American" story, like the woman who told Bush she works 3 jobs to simply take care of the basics for herself and her children.

I would guess, too, that if you still had work to do but you left after 40 hours was over (because you'd be giving them your free time beyond that) that your boss would be none too happy with you. So forced overtime with no pay is probably on the horizon.

What's next, no vacation pay or sick time, no maternity leave?

14. I've never worked for a large company.
The biggest company I ever worked for had about 130 employees. I like small private companies. The benefits often aren't as good but going the extra step gets noticed and you can benefit in many ways from that.

The laws that apply to large corporations don't apply to companies with under 100 employees. So I don't know the laws very well nor do I see the trends in how they are changing. I knew that insurance premiums were getting more and more expensive but I didn't realize the overtime pay issue for hourly employees.

I guess it's only a matter of time before the age at which children can work goes to 14, then 12, and so on. And as people get poorer and poorer they'll fight that less because families will need the additional income.

It's sick.

16. I never work for 1 company.
Unless you look at contract overlap sh*t. My eggs are in many nests, and they are not able to get a(n) (immigrant drone) do do the nesting.

I am quite fortunate.

18. i don't get sick time, just vacation pay. As for maternity leave...
it's no biggie. Just deliver the child while you r at work. I mean hospitals don't keep most mom's more than 6 hours, so why not have the baby while you are working. It'll get that bad w bush and his goonies around.

and if possible, steal from my employer.

They are stealing from you by not paying you for your work. What's good for them...

17. I would be pissed
I work about 100 hours or more a week, and you can be sure I get paid. However, I have freedom to work less, self employed. If you are a slave to a credit card, car payment, house payment etc, you are in a difficult situation. It is not that easy to tell the boss to F.O. if you have bills to pay and mouths to feed. Indentured servitude is what they used to call it......

19. yeah, but they did away with practices likes that, and...
you can't legally call it slavery, so they propose way to keep the rich richer, and the poor poorer while the poor works his behind off and the rich do nothing.
