Bush wants destroying Social Security as his legacy!
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 07:01 PM by Zinfandel
Much the same way as the rich, the republicans, the conservatives & the corporate fascist, see Reagan as their great hero…Reagan was a union buster and proud of it, also feverishly believing in cutting ALL government regulations (including polluting) for corporations, with no accountability, (and now look at the corporate dominated country we live in).

Just as Reagan, Bush will become that great, great president who finally was able to destroy Social Security and the “New Deal” It’s a legacy Bush and Karl Rove are trying very hard to achieve and are very proud of.

There will be nothing they will not do or say…Rove sees this as just getting their foot in the door, to later dismantle Social Security, FINALLY, IN THEIR GRASP NOW!

With enough lies, and our tax dollars going to finance those lies in the form of radio and television ads, the Rove, newly created “war room” and the help of their always complicit buddy's…Corporate Media & their talking head liars...They just may be able to pull off their Social Security lie. The same way they sold the Iraq war lie, keep pounding away until people see and believe it as truth.

We have to do everything we can to stop them and expose their arguments for the lies that they are!!!

Bush (and Rove), desperately want, the beginning of the destruction of the all mighty Social Security, as Bush’s legacy and Rove as its architect...They will be toasted in conservative circles long after we are all gone.

1. Why aren't our reps pounding back??!!

-------------
President Bush was on the news talking about the "crisis" that Social Security faces in 2018. I haven't heard the truth about this repeated often enough, so here it is:

Everyone who makes $90,000 or less pays a big chunk of their income into the Social Security Trust Fund. This money was supposed to be saved to pay for our retirement. Bush called this saved-up retirement money "the people's money" and used it to pay for huge tax cuts for the rich. So while OUR taxes were supposed to be building up a huge reserve for OUR retirement, Bush has been giving it to the rich.

It is projected that Social Security will stop bringing in extra revenue in approx. 2018. This is where the money that was supposed to be saved comes into play -- Bush spent it, and doesn't want to pay it back. THAT is why he says there is a crisis in 2018!

Bush says this is Social Security's problem! He calls it a "crisis" and says we need to cut benefits. I think it is Social Security's problem like it's the bank's problem if I can't come up with the mortgage payment, and I tell the bank they need to lay people off so they don't need my money.

9. Exactly
He's leaving out the fact that HE borrowed money from SS and doesn't want to pay it back. Why don't the democratic senators and reps get on this and hammer him with that? You're very right.

10. WTF happened to shrub's "lockbox"?
Both sides, including right here, have made demeaning comments about Al Gore's lockbox. Outside of the fact that we all wish we had a lockbox now, the damned term wasn't exclusively Gore's to begin with.

Here's a quote from the shrub during the 2000 repuke primaries...before the presidential debate with Gore where the lockbox became infamous.

JIM LEHRER: Yesterday, Governor George W. Bush had a town meeting in Londonderry, New Hampshire.

GOV. GEORGE W. BUSH: We're in a tax debate here in this state and around the country. And let me explain my position as clearly as I can. First, unspent surpluses in Washington, D.C. will be spent, you mark my words, you leave money sitting around the table in Washington, Washington politicians will spend it. Now, I believe there's enough money. If you lockbox the payroll taxes, there is $2 trillion to make sure the Social Security system is safe and secure-- $2 trillion.

I intend to lockbox the payroll taxes and spend them only on what they're supposed to be spent on, and that's Social Security. And by the way... (Applause)

I've posted this quote before, but it bears a re-run. Those bastards need to be slapped in the face with this.

2. The Kitty Kelley book...
... is quite explicit about the Bush family's personal antipathy toward FDR. The chimperor is just carrying out his family's mission to (retrospectively) destroy Roosevelt.

3. I figured
bush was out to nuke us all to kingdom come so his fundy followers could have their 'rapture'.

Bush's legacy will be a ruined nation, either via war or a ruined economy. Can't see that it will make even conservatives pleased.

4. ANYTHING to distract from his current legacy
....the senseless death of our nation's young defenders, and the deaths of countless Iraqis. Compared to that, killing social security appears more kinder and gentler! After all, it takes longer for geezers to die due to lack of decent food, shelter and medical care!

economy to them, they have no loyalty to the American poor and it's workers...They will be the ones toasting.

Your just seeing things from your point of view, from a workers point of view, which, ninety percent of this country is.

The neo-cons have wanted this for seventy years and Bush will be their hero if he's able to pull it off, certainly not mine, or your hero, but absolutely theirs.

Unforunately, they are the ones that are in POWER.

17. It reminds me of the THATCHER UK
Talk about rich get richer, poor get poorer! It was beyond ghastly.

But they came out of that, it took years, but they did. Making her fucking Majesty pay taxes, however so small the amount, was the first step.

Of course, they did not have the civil liberties/civil rights difficulties that we have presently. And the current regime does everything, even rape the land, in the name of national security, as though that will stop the argument decisively. Only when people wake up and toss that bullshit back at them will the situation change.

And if it does not change soon, like, within a half generation, expect a massive exodus. He-looooooo Canada!

19. Under Clinton, the rich and the corporations had to pay their fair share
of taxes. The economy was the best this country has ever known, without "never ending wars."

However, the rich and the corporations didn't like the prosperity for most everyone...they wanted it all for themselves and bought and paid for their little puppet dictator.

And now they are going to make sure they take way and privatize everything. These greedy, selfish ideological republican pigs!

5. Makes sense to me
I think every prez probably wants a legacy. I think shrub probably thought it would be NCLB, then maybe the Iraq war would put him in the history books as the prez who finally calmed down the middle east. But both of those are obvious busts now. So he has moved on to SS.

7. I agree with you
The bigtime republican corporate politicians have never liked Social Security. They tried to stop it from happening and since it happened they've been trying to destory it. It's disgusting how these people are. They don't like helping their fellow man even in a time of crisis in their lives and if it helps makes people better. I do worry about this with my grandparents and people who will retire. I know SS won't go broke or anything like that for a long time but I still worry of course. I was listening to the oldest man at the democratic party discussion of SS and I was listening to his stories of people who struggled during the great depression. How people were kicked out onto the streets with the shame, not being able to get the money they did save and just all the heartbreak families had to go through. I'm afraid of that happening again. It's hard to find a job here now days with them going over seas and Bush doing NOTHING about that and there's so much competition as well. The republican party has never liked anything a democratic president has done no matter what it was. Whether it was Social Security or giving our budget the hugest surplus in our history and people coming out of poverty. They hate government handouts unless it's something they did and profits them. They don't care about helping their fellow man yet a lot of them claim to be Christians. I'm convienced now that Bush wants to be seen as another FDR. Freakin no way is he an FDR if he's going to put tons of our fellow citizen's out on the streets!!! You're right that they will try EVERYTHING to destory Social Security. I can only pray not to. But of course Bush doesn't listen to real citizen's who have to struggle. Bush is so full of himself and his plans I sometimes wonder if he knows his campaign stops and little rally's have people who are screened or if his people keep that from him like they do everything else?

11. ANYTHING goes..
The outright lies and distortions are coming in hard and fast,

http://www.oliverwillis.com/resignhume

On February 3rd, Hume intentionally manipulated the words of the 32nd president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, to make it appear as if FDR supported privatization of social security. This is a brazen falsehood. President Roosevelt's grandson, James Roosevelt Jr., describes Hume's journalistic malfeasance as an "an outrageous distortion". We agree.

13. Things are going to get much worse, they haven't even started the big
lies yet.

Bush is spending so much time and our money doing this because Rove knows with the Medias help "they can pull off this lie". Wall St. is drooling and donate big bucks for Bush to pull off these republican corporate lies.

Support AARP, MoveOn.org and write and call every congressperson and senator you possibly can.

And DONATE your time and money--We can't let them get their foot in the door. They do NOT care about our future...

The lies are going to get much worst and more frustrating as each day passes with Fuckhead Bush on his two month lying crusade to destroy Social Security.

12. I think history will remember him as George the Inept and his
legacy as being used by the most criminal element in the white male political scene. If what the seers are saying in the Astrology forum comes true, George will probably leave the WH later this year feet first and on a gurney.

14. I agree with you, but, I'm not talking about how histroy will see Bush...
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 07:45 PM by Zinfandel
If people believe a republican wants to "fix" Social Security, after the republicans never supported it even in its inception seventy years ago...People should also be made aware of that the republicans have publicly despised Social Security and that the Republicans have VOWED to dismantle and destroy Social Security for the past seventy years…It’s republican ideology to destroy ALL social programs, including Social Security. But SS is the big daddy and they have wanted to get rid of it forever.

AND WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE REPUBLICANS WANT TO "FIX" SOCIAL SECURITY?

SO OF COURSE THEY HAVE TO LIE AND SAY IT'S BROKEN...EVEN PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM THINK IT'S "BROKEN".

I'm sure as hell not going to listen or believe a republican about Social Security...The same Republicans who hate it and want to destroy it? One would have to be an absolute and complete idiot to believe them.

15. This is their M/O. This is how they shot down Clinton's plan to
get health care for everyone. They spread lie, after lie, after lie about how other NHC systems were destitute and bankrupt. They actually were describing our for-profit privatized system, but the populus believed the lies and still do.

18. can't you possibly criticize bush without the "white male" garbage?
I detest Bush and Condoleeza Rice too, but I don't go on about those "black females."

There are a lot of things I like about this website, but the stereotyping of whites, men, southerners, etc. is getting way beyond ridiculous.

20. Garbage? Good description for what I think of the GOPirates
in power, who are overwhelmingly white males. I know there are the tokens like Condi and Alberto, but really run through their websites and official photos; very, very white and male.

'Scuse me while I go back to the kitchen where I belong before Senora catches me out in the living room talkin about white men.

That bunch is garbage. And they are mostly white males.

But not all of us cracker boys are really that bad. I have nothing in common with George except I have a penis and my skin is pale.

Just please consider that a lot of the people of the good side happen to be white and male. I hate to feel unwelcome just because of who I am.

Thank you and good wishes.
