Turkey wishes you a Happy World Women's Day!

5. Before we get all sanctimonious
Did anything like this ever happen in

Miami
Seattle
NYC
Washington?

I'm not going to mention Kent State.

The point is that as long as you have cops, they are going to screw up. Does that mean that national policy is repressive? Maybe, maybe not. Turkey is trying very hard to live up to European human rights standards. One screw up like this is not the end of the world. We have to see what happens next, and next after that. Ask yourself which direction are they heading - toward Tienamen Square or toward la Place de la République.
