Biblical Justification for Trickle Down Economics?
Matthew 15 21-28

21And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. 22And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon." 23But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying out after us." 24He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 25But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." 26And he answered, "It is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." 27She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." 28Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed instantly.

So - is this the biblical justification for trickle-down economics; The poor dogs of the world can eat the crumbs from the master's table?

It was a demonstration of faith and humility. There is no Biblical justification for Freeper beliefs.

2. That, and 'the poor will always be with you,'

among others, are interpreted to mean poverty is incurable and okay with
God. It's a selective reading.

5. Tinkle Down On You Too!
Wasn't it Queen Nancy's hubby who turned "trickle down" into tinkle- tinkle down? Now, you remember Queen Nancy and her hubby don't you? I'll give you a clue..After hubby invaded the island-nation of Grenade-ah, writer Gore Vidal dubbed this blue-chip-off-the-old-block as Field Marshall! What else ever said has more suited a GOP would-be King? What more ever said could explain American aristocrisy, GOP grandeur, having an Austrian Mr. Universe now in line for the throne or explaining our present day imperial heiny's imperialistic fits which anymore are all too prevalent? What I'm saying is the Bushie problem we have is an "inherited" one!

6. The Bible...
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 10:09 AM by sendero
... is so ambiguous and far reaching that you could probably find a passage to "support" any position you want, and I mean any.

I have a hard time getting on board with a god who sends us his word such that you have to have a secret decoder ring to understand him.

I do however find it ironic that many of the same people who decry the theory of evolution and Darwins theories of natural selection, etc are the first to support social Darwinism where we all have to fight like animals to survive, and the "not fit" can just starve. Funny that.

I can't help but find myself puzzling over this same question on a daily basis. How is it that their neurons don't just short-circuit over all the contradictory, malevolent bullshit that flies around inside their heads?

11. Well you didn't ask..
... but here's my considered theory.

These folks aren't really Christians at all. They claim to be, but they have less of an understand of Jesus' message than I do, or simply ignore basically everything Jesus said.

For these people, Christianity is merely a "group identity" that they use as a cover for their decidedly un-Christian behavior.

I actually had someone tell me once that his religion was an "insurance policy", you know, in case it is true. I suspect that, if the god of the Bible really exists, he knows whether you accept Jesus in your heart and whether your repentance is for real or for show. I don't think folks who think they are getting an "insurance policy" are likely to ever collect :)

7. The "Conservative" Sermon On The Mount
The "Conservative" Sermon On The Mount

Blessed are the rich for all good things trickle down from them. Cursed are the poor for poverty results from their moral failings. Blessed are the war makers for they keep freedom on the march. Cursed are the peacemakers for they shall be called appeasers. Blessed are those who inflict harsh punishments for they maintain law and order. Cursed are those who forgive for they shall be called soft on crime. Blessed are those who pray loudly standing in the churches and on the corners sounding the trumpet before them. Cursed are those who shut the closet door and pray in secret for their prayers are not heard. Blessed are those who cast the first stone for the sake of sexual morality for that is the only morality that matters. Cursed are those who see sexuality as a private matter for marriage must be defended against them.

Here's Supply-side Jesus.

"Prosperity is just around the corner." -- Herbert Hoover
"The economy has turned a corner." -- GW Bush

Herbert Hoover = GW Bush

Neither man cared about the Depression their economic policies created.
