2. His term is up in 2006 IIRC
Where he will either win reelection, or retire and be replaced by a Republican.

3. In Nebraska, I'll take a DINO
But if you want you can try to get a progressive elected there. Good luck.

9. He votes to give Harry Reid power and not Bill Frist
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 06:13 PM by Hippo_Tron
He votes to give Pat Leahy the reigns of the judiciary committee and not Arlen Specter. When Republicans control the ENTIRE government, that is the difference.

26. IF he doesn't quit or switch parties when he is one of the deciding votes.
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 08:57 PM by w4rma
Until then, that vote for Reid means nothing. And these votes, on these policies, mean everything.

29. Did he do that when Jeffords switched?
His opportunity to become a Republican was in mid 2001 when Jeffords switched party control to the Democrats. If he didn't do it then I don't think that he'll do it next time.

10. Like Dean,
I don't concede states. Not any of them.

That's a defeatist attitude.

12. Yes, but you must understand Dean is not all that liberal.
He was endorsed by the NRA, he was for welfare reform, and he was a fiscal conservative in Vermont.

I'm sure that Dr. Dean is happy with Sen. Nelson.

Maybe in twenty years, we will see a real liberal from Nebraska. Try- just try- to run someone as liberal as Boxer in Nebraska, AND WE WILL HAVE {drum-roll please} A REPUBLICAN WIN!!

Let's be realistic for a moment. Thanks!

25. Not on this bill. This bill is a giveaway to big banks.
It allows them to foreclose, confinscate and sell people's property, easier.

16. It's not conceeding states, it's stating facts
Name me one Nebraska Dem that could beat a Rebup in 2006 other than Nelson for his Senate seat. This is among the top 10 Repub states in the nation. As it is, Nelson is facing a tough race in 2006 because they are going to say he is too "liberal".

17. There's that defeatist attitude again.
Keep it up. You'll ENSURE no Dem gets elected from there anymore. Having a choice between a republican and republican lite, people will choose the republican. Period.

23. NOT IN NEBRASKA!!
This is why we don't win in all 50 states. We need to adopt the Democratic Brand for all the different states. A staunchly pro-choice, pro-gay rights, and pro-gun control senator WILL LOSE IN NEBRASKA!!

Nelson helps put the good guys in charge of the senate. If you want to never have Democrats control the senate, house, judiciary, or White House- keep running away from moderate, fine Democrats!

Why do you think we held the House for 40 years?! We had a coalition of a wide range of Democrats. Liberals in the north, moderate-conservatives in the south. They didn't always agree. But, they understood that by working together, they produced a Democratic Majority!!

28. Uh, no it's called having to represent your constituency
and it's not a chose between "republican and republican lite" more one of a moderate Democrat v a Conservative Extremist Republican. It's amazing how moderates like Nelson are called DINO all the time. If the man switched he'd automatically become the most LIBERAL Republican.

And look at what I originally said. Nelson's politics are appropriate for NE by not for Conn. If a Dem Senator is what out of whack with his or her constituency in his or her stances there should be a challenge.

But back to my question from earlier, what NE Dem other than Nelson could win a Senate rae in 2006?

22. Nelsons not a Democrat, he's just using and manipulating the party. .
He needs to be fired and run as a Republican, because he doesnt represent our Party.

People in Nebraska need to look at other Democrats to run against him.

30. Uh, there really are not any Dems in NE that are likely to win that
seat other than Nelson in 2006. Democrats in NE aren't fools, their bench is empty. And he could have got a sweet deal if he had wanted to switch after Jeffords enabled the Dems to take control in 2001, but he didn't. He was not a turncoat like Ben Campbell or Richard Shelby.

4. I watched him on The Daily Show
and he pissed me the hell off. He kept talking about how we have to "work with the president where we can."

Um WHERE is that, exactly? Yeah because Eliot Ness believed in working with Al Capone. Uh-huh.

I don't know what's worse--having senators like I do who are out and out repukes or having a Dem senator who doesn't act or vote like one.

And he was the only one who went along with the SS thing, correct? Or that didn't sign that thing against it?

Jon Stewart was even having a hard time with him and his statements.

Nebraska Dems have always been centrist. I think he's trying to save his butt back home. Probably thinks he's not going to get re-elected by toeing the partyline

No offense dude, but that's a load.

If Ben Nelson ran as a Republican he'd get over 70% of the vote in this state.

That statement, from a Nebraskan, no less...

You should know better. The days of Kerrey and Exon are over. Republicans own this state, and Nelson's going to be the last Democratic Senator we see in Nebraska for a long time unless we build up the state party.

Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 12:00 AM by Dave Sund
We want our party in Nebraska to be strong, but it's going to take years of work, and we can't do it without having prominent Democrats. You want to take away the only Democrat holding major office in Nebraska? That's not a fifty state strategy. That's lunacy.
