We had the same under Reagan in the 80s and many still naively look back fondly at that era.

The only problem with Bush is that while we started to turn the corner under Clinton in paying down the deficit and investing in new fields, it's going way back to where we were in the 80s and beyond. At least Reagan raised taxes to help with Social Security, even though it was the regressive payroll tax.

Right now, the rest of the world has too much at stake to let our economy collapse - who would buy all those Chinese manufactured goods, Indian high tech goods, Korean cellphones and Japanese cars if our economy collapsed, not to mention BMWs, VWs and Mercedes from Germany, French & Italian wine, etc? If the US economy collapses into Depression, the rest of the world has at least a severe & prolonged recession. So, they have a stake in keeping us on life support

Bush is steering us towards a take it or leave it point, but I don't think we're quite there yet.

Will another 3 1/2 years of Bush push us past that point, I don't know? I'm sure Professor GAC would know better than me.

Government bankruptcy leading to a breakup of the states into smaller regions.

Some states will however, finally get their wish.
