It leaves me breathless...

That does not seem that scary to me. Thats like 1 in 200 people who are probably stupid to begin with. I suppose most people tune in through out the day however. What do ABC, NBC and CBS do in prime time?

35. Put This In Perspective
For years I fought Faux Noise jerks online about the legitimacy of their treehouse, but these numbers don't lie.

Look at this from the overall viewing world...on any given evening 100,000,000 people are tuned to television, some are watching DVDs, others HBO, others ESPN others Joan Rivers...there's hundreds of choices, so anyone that draws a significant number of viewers can't be dismissed and 2,000,000 average on a cable news channel is impressive.

Also, The Daily Show is close to Faux in numbers...Stewart was close to the 2,000,000 mark last fall, but have sagged a bit since the election (no surprise...but he's still the franchise on Comedy Central, and that's a very good thing).

The networks are rated different than cable since they can reach every American household and those numbers are tabulated and sampled seperately. Mixing CBS with CNNservative are mixing apples and oranges.

Sadly, there's no legislation against bad taste and stupidity in this country and Faux viewers hold that value in common. This is "feel good" TV for many...they think these goons relate to them where the "elite" media or "librul" media doesn't. Too many on the left fail to understand this primal appeal and how Roger Ailes has played it like a violin.

I'm glad to see CNNServative's numbers continue to plunge, but it's more a symptom of the problem, not a cure. This network has been mismanaged since Turner sold it to Time...and don't look for it to change soon as this Eason Jordan fiasco could mean more placating to the right not less. Remember, CNNServative is part of a corporate empire that can afford to lose money with this network (they don't) to use it to curry favor from this regime for its other ventures...and this regime is notorious for having a quid pro quo for everything.

I could name 15 people I know, off the top of my head, that had routinely watched CNN dailey and various shows on MSNBC. These people no longer tune in at all--myself included. I no longer watch the Sunday Follies either, nor do the people i'm referring to. To quote John Stewart (I think), "Why would anyone listen to people who are there expressly to make you dumber?"

17. Count me as a member of that club
I used to watch every Sunday show and just can't stomach it anymore. I'd start the day was CSPAN's Washington Journal, then have CNN or MSNBC on throughout the day here. I'd catch Lou Dobbs, then Hardball, local news and Nightline every night.

Now, it's Lou Dobbs (but usually only about half of it), local news, Anderson Cooper, and a bit of Countdown. Nightline is hit or miss depending on the topic; lately it's been miss it.

I didn't used to like Anderson Cooper at all, but in the past couple of months, he at least seems to be covering things I find important/interesting and doing it from a viewpoint of NEWS vs. spews.

9. I'm not surprised. Alot of people have given up on US media.
Alot of the people I know complain about the uselessness of US media; especially cable news. I'm talking about fairly apolitical, regular people- diesel mechanics, hardware store owners, etc. I meet alot of people who just don't trust the big media anymore. They see it as a mouthpiece of the government or corporate america.

Fox viewers won't leave Fox News for "Fox News, Too", so unless CNN would like to start actually covering news for a change... I expect they'll continue to see their ratings drop.

18. Amerika is reaching the Totalitarian Tipping Point
at which we love our Imperial Masters and their thefts, lies, and frauds which hurt us so.

In 1932, Hitler garnered 32% of the vote. In 1934, he garnered 98% or so. Now, given that Hitler and Bush followers share the same beliefs regarding Election Fraud ("it's OK if THE PARTY does it in the service of battling a 'greater evil'"), the 1934 vote was probably overwhelming anyway.

What happened to the other 40-50% of people? It's called the bandwagon effect, though I would liken it to the muder victim's last struggles, followed by a profound stillness in which the murderer has their way and no opposition.

http://www.answers.com/topic/bandwagon-effect

In either case, the Totalitarian Trends heralding the Coming Darkness will eventually reach that Nazi Germany 1934 level. On Cable TV, we are already there, when everyone is "brought into line" and everyone LOVES their new Masters and unquestioningly believes them and obeys.

It can't happen here? HAH! We are already 1/3rd of the way there or more in some categories (such as the Gleitschaltung of the Amerikan Former Free Press).

It's coming, like the rumblings of a volcano ready to explode, Amerika is reading for it's penultimate descent into Orwellian Totalitarianism.

That will be bad enough. I hope I am not alive for the Final Phase of the Transformation.

I guess Kudlow isn't the best poster boy for Supply Siders anymore given these numbers and the average CNBC watcher seems to be getting that "something's" just not right with this economy despite the constant "drumbeat," about how great Bushies economy is going.

------------

MSNBC declined 15% overall and 14% in primetime, while financial news channel CNBC declined 23% overall and 42% in primetime.

thought they would win support of rabid neanderthals by becoming fox-ish.
people who want fox want the lies and propaganda, sensationalism and jingoism.

cnn cant do that and still be a "news" organization.

if they understood reality, they would realize they should have moved further toward actual fairness and balance, more towards truth and speaking truth to power instead of kowtowing to the chimp.

maybe after is all burns down we will get a real honest national news network from the ashes.

They have alienated their viewers, and those who were persuaded by their bias have moved to Faux to get the hard core republicrap view.

32. But, to RWers, CNN is still the "Clinton News Network"
And, therein lies their problem. Back in 2000 when they first really got worried about their ratings losses to Fox, they met with Congressional Republicans to see how they could better appeal to those RWers they lost to Fox. The result was that CNN took a sharp right turn in their political slant - bringing in Paula Zahn, bringing in respected conservatives like Lou Dobbs & Aaron Brown, moving the liberal/Democratic voices on Crossfire to a time when nobody watched in the afternoon.

Unfortunately for CNN, this was a disaster. RWers still didn't trust them and they pissed off liberals like me and 65,000 other DUers... so, they lost both ends of the political spectrum in a few short years and their ratings have never recovered.

If CNN tomorrow announced plans to revamp their staff and hired Will Pitt to replace Wolf Blitzer, hired Al Franken to replace Paula Zahn and Mark Maron & Marc Riley to replace Soledad & Hemmer in the morning, would everybody on DU instantly tune in to CNN 24/7? Or, will many take the "wait & see" attitude, tuning in more & more over time?

31. CNN could turn that around, you know.
All they'd have to do is what they did in the beginning. Straight reporting, relying on a large number of overseas sources so we could find out what the rest of the world thinks. More hard news, less celebrity worship.

And the kicker? Start a new program, 2 hours/night 'From the Blogs' that examines the stories that we hear about, that no one else is covering. A new anchor just for that show who can approach it with a clean slate, who can put the resources of a major network into researching the real stories, the conspiracy theories, and out-right fantasies that we encounter here.

That would get them the ratings, if it is really the ratings they are after.

38. That is good news but again
CNN is responding in the wrong way. The reason that they are down in ratings is because those of us who used to watch CNN don't anymore. We don't watch Fox either. Anyone who wants to watch the freeper news will watch Fox, not CNN. There is a market for fake new and I don't blame the corporate "money is God mindset" that allows Rupert Murdoch to produce Fox News violating every principle of journalism and decency out there. Some people just want to see propaganda because they are afraid of the truth.

I used to watch Greta Von Susteren on CNN and stopped watching her show on Fox after two shows because the content had changed to Laci Peterson all the time. I would to switch back to see if she changed content and everytime I would tune in she would be on Laci Peterson so I would switch the channel off. Since I don't usually watch Aaron Brown I was unaware of the change in content in his program until last night when I was at a club meeting and the people at my table were discussing that they used to like Aaron Brown, but don't like what he is doing now. So now those CNN watchers will switch the channel.

This move will lose more viewers to CNN not gain them. Hey, any news media lurkers out there competitition is good, but you compete by providing a different product than the leader in your field. If you sell the same thing, then people will shop where they got it first. Offering a variety of choices is what competition is about not cookie cutter imitation.

If you are in a strange town, and you want a faux burger, chances are you will go to McDonalds, not the local guy who serves the same thing. If you don't like faux burgers you will probably go hungry until you find an alternative. However, chances are the local guy will get your business if they are serving tacos instead of hamburgers because the taco lover will eat the tacos and the faux hamburger lover will still eat at McDonalds.

Now that PBS and NPR has went neo-con, there is really a market for reality-based TV news and analysis without the propagandist tinge.

She was brave enough to challenge the bushtapo early on. When CNN had a message board, she would follow certain threads and report on them. I even got quoted a couple times on their "Hot Topics" part of the show. Suddenly, she got fired.

I have always felt that the bushtapo's spooks had intervened. The last insult was when faux hired her. I have not watched her show on faux, as I refuse to watch anything on that channel. I imagine that she has been throttled back pretty far by the management.
