Corporate Dominance of our economy is hazardous to Democracy.
Over the past fifty years, the stranglehold on our economy by corporations, growing ever larger, has sapped the will and spirit and independence of the people. That spirit is the cornerstone of any Democracy. This steady erosion of the spirit has finally made it possible for Bush and his courtiers to seize power, relentlessly attack his opponents or what is left of his opposition and thoroughly coopt the three branches of the government.

When I see people working behind the football field sized cubicles in many corporate offices and the fear that pervades those halls on friday afternoons when pink slips start flying,I wonder if this is the kind of Americans that took enormous risks to rise up against the British Empire.

What is more, the Business Press, exalts the CEOs of these big corporations, come rain or shine and tells all the rest of us to take risks to make our millions or billions.Totally forgotten is that more than 95% of all new business startups end up in failure and the deck is stacked against the small man, undercapitalized and taking huge risks. It is as though we are all being advised to play in a casino all the time and throw the dice every day.

No wonder we are all fearful. When that is topped off by the physical fear of terrorism, the first thing that goes out the window is any independence of thought and action, a situation perfectly made for Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.
