Imagine what the world would be like if Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson were put where they belong, in a Mental Hospital. Imagine if the (Anti)Christian Coalition and the (Im)Moral Majority never formed. What would the world be like?

1000's of people in Central America and Africa would still be alive

No Al Qaeda (The Afghan 'freedom' fighters came as a result of the Christian Right's want for intervention in Afghanistan)

If the Christian Right never existed and Bush and Al Qaeda never came into power, would that mean that 9/11 never would have happened?

Shoot, no holy rollers in daily life trying to cram their garbage religion down my throat.

However, with the collapse of communism, they had to find people they could manipulate with fear. Holy rollers are great targets, since their religion is fear based, anyway. They were perfect suckers for that old "sek'lar humanism" bogeyman. With their persecution complexes, they were ripe for the Christian soldiers fighting back routine.

If they hadn't found terrified people who thought the whole world was against them (simply because it didn't always cater to them), they would have manufactured another group of targets and bogeymen to threaten them.

Have some peace and could, mostly, let people believe as they want as long as they don't bother anyone. Much like the 90's.

4. Fundamentalists are not really the problem.

Greed and consumption are the biggest issues. The fundamentalists always overreach with the Spongebob and Tinky Winky deals, and no one likes party poopers. They may say they believe what the TV preachers say, but not many really do.

Most people sure do like using oil based products, though.

To say that if Jerry Falwell wasn't around, there would have been no 9-11 is more than a stretch. Policies of Empire, Consumption and Greed will always win out over religious nuts and cause even more problems.

5. Imagine where we'd be in science and medicine.

Religious wackos have been trying to stop progress in those areas since Galileo.

I think it's interesting that mathematics as a science is so advanced compared to biology and medicine; because religious fundies can't understand it! They can rail against scientific explanations of the earth's orbit and fight advances like stem cell research, but cutting edge mathematics and string theory is WAY over their heads.
