White House gets tapes of Bush "marijuana" chat
http://www.swissinfo.org/sen/swissinfo.html?siteSect=143&sid=5571482

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An author who secretly taped conversations in which George W. Bush indicated he had used marijuana has turned the tapes over to the president's private counsel, the White House says.

The White House was irritated last month when Doug Wead released portions of his recorded conversations with Bush from 1998 to 2000, when Bush was governor of Texas and planning his White House run. snip

The conversations also included talk of the use of marijuana. "I wouldn't answer the marijuana question. You know why? Because I don't want some little kid doing what I tried," Bush says on one tape. snip

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the tapes were in the hands of the president's "private counsel."

more

Now that Bush and his minions have admitted that the tapes are genuine I hope this guy now releases copies of ALL the tapes. Even the ones where Bush was too high to remember what said to this guy years ago. Wouldn't that be a hoot?

1. Oh right, don't let the kids know you've smoked pot but tell
the world how you like to kill women and children.

4. No Way
The person who recorded those conversations was certainly acting with Bush's blessing. Notice the difference between what Bush said on the tape and what he would have said if it was an honest conversation:

BUSH ON TAPE:
I'm just not going to answer questions about marijuana because I love children and care about them very much and don't want them doing drugs. Children are the future and everything I do is for them. I am a very honest person and I would never tell a lie unless it is so that I can be the personal savior to millions of American children!

IF BUSH WAS BEING HONEST
Look, I'm pretty sure there is no way that I can be elected President of the United States if I admit to all the times I snorted blow off the tits of Tijuana hookers. I gotta come up with some lame-ass bullshit lie... help me out here. What do ya think about me refusing to answer that question for the sake of the children? That usually plays good in them rectangular states... it's fer the sake o' the childrins. That's the ticket.

5. Certainly that first quote ...
Edited on Tue Mar-01-05 07:46 PM by YDogg
... is not genuine. I'm not sure I get your point, but it seems that the taper was pressured officially or unofficially to turn over the tapes, and sensed that to refuse would be foolhardy.

Okay, let's say * knew he was being taped ... the tapes were potentially distracting at best, and could have been damaging if released in full -- we'll never know.

Now that the tapes have been turned over "to the President," are they part of an official record, do they become public property, and as such, can they be requested by the media or others? I know, I know ... they will not be turned over, but if not, why not, and will anyone seek them?

10. Bush WANTED Those Tapes Released
Bush knew about those tapes and the entire thing was a Rove machination. The point of the "quotes" (neither of which are actual quotes by the way) was to show the vast difference between reality and what Bush said on the tape.

In other words, Bush-on-tape talks about how he doesn't want to talk about marijuana "because of the children". As if he actually gave two shits about "the children". The reality, as illustrated in the second "quote", is that Bush did far worse things than marijuana and the real reason he doesn't want to talk about it is that he knew it had the potential to torpedo his chances of becoming King of America.

If I'm really talking to a friend, with no knowledge of the fact that I'm being taped, I'll probably be honest with him and just say, "Dude, I fucked up so bad with the heroin and the hookers and that one guy we had to bury in the desert that one time... if people found out, I'd never get elected." I'm not going to say, "Dude, I am not going to answer questions about heroin and hookers and dead dudes in the desert because I don't want children thinking it's okay to do those things."

It was a very badly written script.

13. I see what you are saying now ...
... and I agree with it generally. I believe it is possble for the entire thing to have been orchestrated by Rove, et al.

I just don't know that there would be any real point to having created the tapes for their eventual release ... because there is always the chance that they would be interepreted by some as far worse for * than they seem to be. And how close a friend was this guy to *? I don't recall, but I thought he was closer to the elder *, and * seems to regard many in his father's administration with some distain. It seems that if there was an actual effort to create the tapes, then release them, they would have been in the hands of someone more fully under WH control. At this point, it doesn't seem to matter.

3. The Weed that might have poisoned the Bush
LOL!

It was lightning speed from the time the announcement of the tapes came out to this guy saying he was packing it in, turning over the tapes and going home. I imagine if it had been otherwise, he would have gotten some "Rather" uncomfortable press.

9. So why isn't Bush getting Clintoned?
It seems they made a much bigger deal out of Billy Bob not inhaling than Bushy admitting he abused and more. What gives?

14. I believe these "tapes"
are part of a planned distraction, orchastratede and scripted to move attention from something potentially harmful, like lil georgies* gay playmate, but, thats just my thinking.
