Bush calls himself a Christian, how can he reconcille the bombing
and killing of tens of thousands civillians for a war that was based on a lie, and how can the evangenlistic Christians reconcille it.

I am not a Christian, but my understanding was that Christ was a pacifist, and a socialist, who encouraged helping the poor

I find the paradox quite interesting, and wonder how Christians deal with this issue, unless of course the message of Christ in turning the other cheek is not what it appears to be

1. If he is christian and is going to heaven
then I don't want to go there.

2. I just figured it out.
BECAUSE he's a Christian, he has carte blanche on everything he does and says. The right-wingers around me are just emboldened by this new legitimacy. Their prejudices can now stand on their own. They have no need to explain themselves. No one takes on Bush, so, he must be right.

16. Yep. And if you criticize him/them
it must be because you hate christians. That's how they frame it. Even if you criticize only their bigoted, misguided, words or their 19th century attitudes, taking them to task means, in their mind, that you're attacking christians. And they have a very powerful media machine capable of getting that message out, too.

3. He's not.
He can call himself a Christian till his face turns blue, but that won't make him one. The christians who are supporting him have two reasons.

1. Their perception of a connection to power. Unfortunately, that's an illusion.

2. Their view is that he's supporting Israel. Another illusion.

4. Don't you remember Christ
attacking his enemies? (Sarcasm)

In W's sick mind, he's doing the right thing...but he's not fooling everyone, thankfully!
He's only making it worse for us Americans, imho - I heard that Bin Laden wants to attack again...oh yeah, what color today?

5. Once you believe you are the choice of God, all things are possible
Killing a competitive brother is a murder, killing thousands is acting as the hand of God.

Imagine the trouble, once God's thoughts are revealled to you in your thoughts.

Your darkest thoughts, your greatest fears no longer seem just your private musings, but revelations from the Almighty.

8. old testament
allows battle. a group of christians have decided they get to decide who the christian is, and if you are not a christian, they feel validated on beating person down. comewhere in the bible it says something about this.

old testament is harsh. they are living out of that part of the bible. validates behavior

17. yes, but from the Christian perspective the New Testament
replaces the Old Testament, they can't have it both ways, i.e.

The old testament says don't eat pork, the new testament says it is OK

The old testament says an eye for an eye, the new testament says turn the other cheek

etc. etc. etc.

Interesting paradox

20. but somewhere in the new testament
they have where jesus has woven old testament into new, whereever the passage is........they say that clearly means we are to live the old. lol lol. this si the issue. too many christian church have gone to old for control they feel they lost...........

but though it is not how i live christ conscious, they have convinced themselves they are in a higher place. this allows them to be fooled. they have been indoctrined.

they do not have a good arguement, they know, we know the world knows, so they plug ear and say la la la la la. i dont care. i dont want to hear. this is literally for real. have had adult people do this. is funny to watch. at first my mouth hung open, at least i dont go there anymore

this is how they validate

right wing operatives.

Bush doesnt understand the bible, he was taught a version of christianity not encumbered with alot of the teachings of christ.

have also been taught the same version. They put the evil shrub into the White House with full knowlege of his lies.

Edited on Tue Mar-01-05 08:00 AM by davhill
As a tool to control people. People are more apt to accept things that would ordinarily horrify them if they can be convinced that they are doing so in the service of a higher power.

"And Jesus opened up his mouth and said:
'Yeah though I have previously intoned that
A Man must turn the other cheek; Lo I have since
Had the scales lifted from mine eyes.

If my Disciples here on earth have the mightiest swords;
Then God calls upon those Disciples to render that sword
Against the Meek, if, in that Disciple's sole discretion,
He believes the Meek may be harboring desires to maybe,
Build a mighty sword themselves someday in the future,
Or have related programs therefor.

And, yeah though this runs contrary to the Sermon on the Mount near Galilee which I have preached of late;
Canst thou take a joke?"

Edit for spelling

14. He's not one ,just a ploy !
to make sure he recieved the support of the right wing, and could possibly convince some religous Dems to convert ,and vote for him. How does someone who does'nt like to read alot ,say their favorite book is the Bible ! So many things about this fraud ,are such a joke ,however its a bad joke, cause thousands have lost their lives ,because he is in office. I get so made when the news for that day will start out at the top of the news being some stupid thing about our great leader and then about several topics later ,it oh yea by the way eight of our brave young men where killed in Iraq by road side bomb. The death of anyone in Iraq that takes place cuse of a war we did not need to start. This should be top of the news with pictures and names ,many are our young men and women, are mostly very young. This and the inocent civilians in Iraq ,is the real top of the news as far as Iam concerned !
Take Care

which of course gives him the divine right to completely overrule Jesus's teachings on love, forgiveness, caring for the poor etc.

18. He has the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch!!
LAUNCELOT: We have the Holy Hand Grenade.
ARTHUR: Yes, of course! The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! 'Tis one
of the sacred relics Brother Maynard carries with him! Brother Maynard!
Bring up the Holy Hand Grenade!

How does it, uh... how does it work?
KNIGHT: I know not, my liege.
ARTHUR: Consult the Book of Armaments!
MAYNARD: Armaments, Chapter Two, Verses Nine to Twenty-One.
BROTHER: "And Saint Atila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying,
'Oh, Lord, bless this thy hand grenade that with it thou mayest blow
thy enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin, and
people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies,
and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large --"
MAYNARD: Skip a bit, Brother.
BROTHER: "And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the
Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three
shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting
shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two,
excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once
the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou
thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who being naughty
in my sight, shall snuff it.'"
MAYNARD: Amen.
ALL: Amen.
ARTHUR: Right! One... two... five!
KNIGHT: Three, sir!
ARTHUR: Three!

19. Like he justifies everything...he CHERRY-PICKS.
Edited on Tue Mar-01-05 10:44 AM by LynnTheDem
Rightwingnuts just CHERRY-PICK their religious doctrine.

And they're not really "CHRISTians". Christ would never approve of anything the rightwingnuts do/are doing, and rightwingnuts know this. That's why rightwingnuts never actually quote Jesus; they can't because Jesus stood opposed to everything the rightwingnuts say & do.

Edit:

bush's OWN CHURCH and bush's OWN CHURCH LEADER called bush's invasion of Iraq "ILLEGAL, IMMORAL AND UNJUST", it did NOT meet the religious standard of a "just war", and that bush should repent & ask for forgiveness.

But of course bush knows his religion better than his own church & his own churh leader does. :eyes:

Besides, they are not white people so it does not matter to Jesus how many are killed.
