I need DU's opinion on this article.
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/1109644964763_26/?hub=TopStories

The ripple effect created when Canada said 'no' to signing on to U.S. missile defence seems to have penetrated deeper south of the border than first believed.

CTV News has learned that U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was so displeased by Canada's decision to opt out of the program that she's postponed a planned visit to Ottawa in mid-April.

Why is America so suprised that we opt'ed out of the Missile defence program? There is a very slim majority of Canadians who are for it, and by now Americans should know that our government makes decisions based on popular opinion. It would have been suicide for Paul Martin to agree to it. Im sure Bush is well aware aware that Martin isn't going to give away his popularity in this country for him.

Is it a good political move for the Secretary of State to lash out on Canada when relations are so bad now? Missile defence, Softwood Lumber, Cattle Trade.... all these issues have been piling up over the years and nothing is getting done. Shouldn't we get together and get some deals done, rather then cancelling meetings already set.

1. Bush really knows how to win friends and influence people
He is a complete idiot. One country we have always had the support of is Canada. And here he goes destroying that too.

I'm not surprised that Canada has not gone along with the Missile defense program. Canada does not need to be making missiles it seems because it has no enemies, unlike the US.

And now Condi is playing baby by not visiting? I can't wait till they are OUT.

2. Bush Doctrine: My way or the highway.
Condisleasy Rice is a lying, duplicitous snake and you're better off not having her in your country.

5. Yeah - she is not visiting. Bet ya that was in the back of the minds
of the Liberal Caucus when they made the decision. Who the fuck wants to talk to a delusional? The Liberals have an election to do in the Spring and being seen in the same 'space' as Bush - almost cost Martin the last election.

I doubt very much that anything happens between Canadian Relations with the US that isn't gone over with the "Deviant Squad of the RCMP". My best bet is that whatever Bush asks for from Canada he will not get. You give the sociopath nothing. You give him not enough information. You give him no respect. You give him no favours. You make no deals. You never agree with him. You talk to him as little as possible (why the phone call went to Rice). That is how you are supposed to treat a sociopath. And that is how Canada will treat Bush. Until Rove is out of power - it is just going to be a big huge wall of smoke from CANADA.

IMHO

9. If you give in to sociopaths - they will just want more. I was joking
about all relations with the US being reviewed by 'the deviant squad'. But how are you supposed to treat a bully.

I mean they have done nothing on softwood. And UPS tried to sue Canada for costing them Canadian Business by the Canadian government subsidizing Canada Post (which you can do under the free trade agreement ... an outside party can sue a national government for their subsidies government programs give to any competitor)....perhaps hmos may be next in line. But I think the Patriot Act, and the inability any American Corporation has of keeping anyone's records or letters private, will end the cases for now.

Deep down inside, she admires you for having the guts she never had.
