Poll question: Is Lebanon freeing itself from Syrian occupation a bad thing?
I don't get people here. Good news comes from Lebanon that they have rid themselves of the Syrian puppet government and may finally have the military occupation come to an end. This situation is very similar to the US's occupation of Iraq. and yet folks start screaming this is bad and it's all a PNAC plot, blah blah blah.

This is reminding me of the situation in Ukraine, when certain people here think that anyone who opposes Bush is automatically good. That's a rather freeperish view of the world.

4. Well there is already
a signed withdrawal agreement in effect and underway.

Has been ever since Syria was called in to quell the Lebanese civil war.

This is bad as it looks like the war is about to restart...and they are hamstringing anything Syria could could to keep it from doing so.

5. Lebanon was in the midst...

of a devastating civil war when Syria moved in. The situation was complicated by the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in the 1980s.

The Syrians basically stopped the civil war through military force imposed on all parties. It now appears the situation has been stable enough for Syria to withdraw some time. It's a good thing as long as the civil war doesn't kick into motion again.

Odd though, that this occupation should be so openly called into question. There is another one that has lasted much longer, with much more death and destruction, just a wee bit to the south.

Your question contains the answer. Lemme know when to break out the champagne.
