Kansas attorney general seeking records of women who had late-term abortions

. The attorney general of Kansas wants to know the detailed history of the sex lives of nearly 90 women who received late-term abortions.

Court documents show that Phill Kline wants to search the documents for evidence of crimes under laws that limit late-term abortions and require mandatory reporting of suspected child sexual abuse.

Under the order signed by a judge, the attorney general would get records that would include each patient's name, medical history, details of her sex life, birth control practices and psychological profile.

The Wichita Eagle says two medical clinics have asked the Kansas Supreme Court to intercede.

what women do with their bodies is none of your business Phill

would Phill Kline's people please take him home and keep him there.

how does the Kansas Supreme Court feel about women?

1. Probable cause, please
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 01:32 PM by rocknation
He can't just assume that those women had late term abortions for criminal reasons simply because they had them--he has to have a tangible, legal reason to suspect particular individuals. Maybe he thinks he doesn't need one because Rush Limbaugh's medical records were siezed in Flordia. Well, there was probable cause in that case--Rush was caught selling thousands of illegaly obtained drugs. This is so unconstitutional it hurts!

On edit: Here's another thread on the subject.

Bill enables women to hear the truth

By CARYL F. SWIFT
Published on: 02/25/05
Wednesday was a momentous day for women's rights in Georgia. The Georgia House spoke loud and clear in its support of the Woman's Right to Know bill with a resounding bipartisan vote of 139 to 35. This common-sense legislation is a long time in coming, and women in Georgia deserve to know the truth.
***********

Oh yeah, what truth is that? This fiendish bill, perversly title Woman's Right to Know, would require women seeking an abortion to wait 24 hours after being informed by a doctor of the medical risks of the procedure, gestational development of a fetus, fetal pain and alternatives including adoption. Presumably, the woman will also be informed that her immortal soul will burn in hell for all eternity as a result of undergoing such a procedure. The bill also would require that only a minor's parents or legal guardian be notified before she could have an abortion. Currently, certain stand-ins, such as a grandparent or other relative, can be notified.

3. This guy will get slapped down eventually
Asscrack did the same thing a year ago, and he got slapped down.

Yes, fishing expeditions without probable cause are unconstitutional.

Now, if he wants to fund a study of late term abortions without focusing on specific patients, that's another matter. Determining the reason for late abortions would be a real education for right wing assholes, I'm sure. Late term abortion is a drastic and painful procedure. It's not done because the woman is going on a cruise and wants her swimsuit to fit. It's done because there is no other alternative for the woman in question.

I sincerely hope this stuff starts to wake people in Kansas up to just what the right wing woman haters are all about, but I doubt it will.
