Is the "conservative" message really: MIGHT MAKES RIGHT?

I've talked to self-defined "conservatives" about that and most say they don't believe "might makes right".

However, I point out, it sure appears to be plenty of evidence that those who are supposedly spreading the "conservative message" advocate (and operate as if) MIGHT MAKES RIGHT.

1. How does the "might makes right" belief fit it with the moral clarity,...
,...that is so often advertised as owned by the "right-wing"? It just seems like such an incredible contradiction and I wonder how they rationalize it.

7. Conservatives don't stop and think about what they believe
If they did, they couldn't possibly be conservative.

It is impossible to honestly hold all of their conflicting views.

So most conservatives are either idiots who don't know what's really going on, or they are liars and hypocrites.

8. But, many of the "conservatives" I talk to think about what they believe.

And most of them reject the notion that "might makes right". Yet, it is a circle of "might makes right" extremists who are leading the herd.

Sometimes, I think that a pretty good portion of "conservatives" haven't a clue that their leadership is akin to a wolf in sheep's clothing (or perhaps more appropriately, sheep herder's clothing).

10. So why do they blindly support Bush, "because he is our leader"
Honestly, I have never met a conservative who I felt was sincere and honest.

And, I live in Kansas and have relatives in MO, so that's saying alot.

Hitler and the Protestants

When Hitler turned his attention to the Protestants, he faced a different situation. How does one deal with at least twenty-eight different church federations? The national assembly of these churches had no real authority, and the Protestants had neither archbishop nor pope. Hitler therefore decided to create such a figure. He suggested that the Protestant churches elect or appoint a national bishop who would sit in the religious affairs department (the Ministry of Cults) of the national government.

The reaction of some German church leaders was ecstatic, witness this message:

Through God's intercession, our beloved German Fatherland has experienced a mighty exaltation. In this turning point in history we hear, as faithful evangelical Christians, the call of God to a closing of ranks and a return, the call also for a single German Evangelical Church .... The Confessions are its unalterable basis .... A national bishop of the Lutheran confession stands at its head .... Christ comes again and brings an eternal completion in the majesty of HisKingdom. <2>

Although not all Protestants voiced these sentiments, a general feeling of elation grew in the Protestant churches. Miracles seemed to be happening. The Protestants were asked once again to play a role in the affairs of the nation. They were even offered a chance to form a national, unified church. Could all this simply be coincidence? It seemed to be the hand of God at work in Germany. He was calling the churches back to their old place and task in the midst of the nation. <more>

6. The Neo-Cons
seem to think "might" makes "right," with the definition of "right" being in the eye of the beholder. Hey, if you are mighty enough, you don't have to be right in the eyes of the rest of the world. They also seem to believe that "the means justify the ends."

9. "Religious Right and the anti-government, anti-tax wing..."
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/2/22/155525/061

Esp. the part on the Council for National Policy

"Since its founding, the tax-exempt organization has been meeting three times a year. Members have come and gone, but all share something in common: They are powerful figures, drawn from both the Religious Right and the anti-government, anti-tax wing of the ultra-conservative movement."
--------------

Seems like you get the combination of people who believe God is on their side only - and supports whatever they are doing with people who represent wealthy, corporate interests. The Religious Right delude themselves with their goodness about "faith-based" programs - otherwise known as "Government grants to religious organizations". And then they feel justified taking the (tax) money from the poor and giving it to the rich.

They developed this power and control - so they have the might and they must be right - according to them - at least that's how I see it.

13. Every time a case of police abuse comes out, I turn on right wing radio.
It's fascinating. Without exception, they line up behind the police department. It doesn't matter what kind of evidence there is- it can be video tape- they'll dismiss it and offer flowery praise for authority.

That's only one small manifestation of the "might makes right" attitude that I've noticed. There are plenty of others. You can count on the conservative mind to come down squarely on the side of power, authority, and aggression almost every time.
