Except for people like Paul Krugman, Bob Herbert, and Stev Chapman,
why do I always get the feeling that being truthful is not a strong characteristic of most op-ed columnists?I would say that Will, Krauthammer,Brooks,Safire,Parker refuse to let facts stand in the way of their opinions. The best example of this intellectual bankruptcy is the sad case of Tom Friedman who scrambles from country to country looking to gain insights from taxi cab drivers to the big cahunas and comes up spouting the same inanities. He had such a terminal case of running on empty that he took a long 'sabbatical' and now shows all the signs of being brain dead. I have only one advice for these courtiers:Suspect the powerful. They will surprise you with their depravity that will exceed all that you can imagine. When you ignore their misdeeds, you not merely dishonor your calling, you collude with them.

1. great post. What is the latest take on Friedman?
I've seen him all over the map, and wondered where he's at today, for now....

2. For a while he tried to set himself up as the Guru of High Technology
singing its praises as the panacea to the world's problems. With the crimes of the Bush cartel staring him in the face, this had the effect of a diversionary tactic. So, now he has resorted to calling the Iraq war a good thing joining his buddy in crime Lieberman and Zell Miller as the cheerleader from the side lines.
