Maine freezes adult Medicaid enrollment

In a little more than two years, the program has grown from zero to 24,000, outstripping all projections, both in terms of enrollment and costs. The freeze will remain until enrollment drops by 8,000 to 10,000 people.

Without that freeze, the program was projected to go over the federal spending limit by $38 million, and all of that would have to be picked up by the state, since the federal government only reimburses up to a cap, now set at $100 million for the program.
