Dean has peaked?
umm, ok...

just a friendly reminder to all of those on here going by the others' campaigns' talking points and strategies... i'm sure they're all saying "just lay low, dean will either implode or die out. it'll be fun to watch."

PLEASE keep thinking this folks! i assure you that you're in for quite a suprise, and more importantly, that you underestimate the sheer power of the massive grassroots army dean is building...

trust me, dean hasn't peaked.

fortunately, he's just getting started.

watch.

2. Are they basing their "peaking" questions on past candidates
who came on strong and then were nowhere to be seen later on?

Because if they are then they should realize that this is a Different campaign with Real Grassy Roots!

6. Troll? Here's A "Friendly Reminder"
That it is possible that Dean won't pan out... and some of us think this is a very real possiblity.

Only time will tell.

And silly me for not realizing that this was a cheerleading thread. You didn't actually plan on having
a discussion.

3. Grass Roots Or Astroturf
Something Funny about Howard Dean Supporters?
author: curious
There is something curious going on with some of the Dean supporters coming to Portland Indymedia. One has to wonder if all these Dean supporters are merely ordinary people who spontaneously post here, or they an example of a what is called an "Astroturf" operation--an organized political operation designed to create the image of a "grassroots" political movement.

Astroturf or real grassroots? You decide. In this day and image of media manipulation and Psyops- masquerading-as-News, you can never be sure.
Has anybody noticed something strange concerning all the Howard Dean supporters coming to this site? I bring this issue up based upon Antiwar.com's recent article concerning Howard Dean and the response that it generated, and the subsequent response of Dean people to similar articles involving Howard Dean posted here on Portland Indymedia.

If you go to the Antiwar.com letters page for August 30, 2003 you see numerous letters from Dean supporters attacking Justin Raimondo's article "The Dean Deception." In particular, note the letters from Paul J. Gessing, John Timothy, Geoff DeWan, and John Pierce. The letters can be read here:

12. 83,000+ donors averaging ~$90 each is grassroots
Edited on Wed Sep-10-03 09:57 PM by w4rma
Final 2nd Quarter People-Powered Howard Report: $7.6 Million Raised
Howard Dean today announced that 73,226 Americans joined together to raise over $7.6 million for the Dean for America campaign in the second filing quarter which ended on June 30. A total of 83,041 individuals have contributed to the campaign overall.

"This campaign is about bringing people back into a political process that for too long has been dominated by Washington insiders out of touch with real Americans,” said Dean. “Behind each of these contributions are the stories of Americans who want to take their country back, and they are making a huge difference."

Fundraising Facts:

**Of the 83,041 donors overall, only 891 have maxed out, enabling over 82,000 of them to continue to contribute funds to the campaign in the future.

**The average donation to the campaign was $88.11, demonstrating that Americans are participating directly in their democracy, giving what they can to reclaim their government.

** Over 62,000 donors gave for the first time to Dean for America this quarter, demonstrating the momentum and growth of the campaign.

“We are building the greatest grassroots campaign of the modern era,” said Campaign Manager Joe Trippi. “These supporters are not only donating money, they’re flyering in their neighborhoods and collecting signatures for ballot access, they’re engaged in a way they never have been before. This is people-powered Howard.”

Dean Raises $7.5 Million in Second Quarter
In the second quarter ending yesterday, 59,000 Americans donated an average of $112 to help boost Governor Howard Dean to the top of the second quarter fundraisers with a total of $7.5 million raised.

Unlike the small, exclusive multi-million dollar fundraisers held in major cities by President Bush over the last week, the Dean campaign saw its numbers surge based on small donations over the Internet—with nearly $3 million raised online in the last week alone. In the second quarter, 45,030 people donated online a total of 51,474 times. The average donation online was $74.14.

“When we said last week during the governor’s announcement that ‘You have the power,’ we had no idea just how much power our supporters had,” said Campaign Manager Joe Trippi. “They are people participating directly in their democracy, and doing whatever they can to help us take our country back—giving $20, $30, or $50. This is People-Powered Howard.”

Second quarter fundraising by the numbers:

Total raised in second quarter: $7,500,000 Total donors (2003 to date): 70,000
Average contribution: $112

First time donors in second quarter: 48,000

Levels of Internet Giving:
Less than $50: 18,422
$50 -- 99: 11,579
$100 -- $249: 11,436
$250 -- $499: 2,379
$500 -- $1,000: 368
$1,000 and up: 129

25. I'm grassroots
I'll be in contact with the campaign in my home state, and I'll know what's going on, but that doesn't make me 'Astroturf.'

He was exposed in the debate. Actually, he was exposed on MTP a while ago. A lightweight.

His numbers are already declining.

Sack up. Vote for the adult. Kerry.

13. Thats some good analysis. But where are the facts to back it up?
Most importantly where have you seen, or read about Dean's numbers declining?

And how was he exposed during the debate?

18. Compared to Kerry Dean is a lightweight
there really is no comparison. Kerry is 5 years his senior and hit the ground running as a public servant right out of college.
Kerry didn't waste his time selling stocks on Wall Street.
Kerry has spent a lifetime in public service, Dean is a newcomer by relative comparison.
And yes I agree- I too see John as much more of an adult.

January 20, 2005, but definately not in 2004.

even if the sign had read "4003", he could have been making a sly joke about red-hot status and expectations, but "2004" just seems careless
